Apparently Gounaris continued to press his claims to be chief Greek delegate at the London conference, but according to the Greek press, "on learning the unfavourable impression created in London by the reports of his intention to represent Greece", he agreed to the nomination of Kalogeropoulos.
On April 1 Gounaris, emboldened by the fact of his being "officially" recognized by the Allies in London, at last assumed the premiership on the resignation of Kalogeropoulos, who received the portfolio of finance.
After meeting with a cold reception in Paris, Gounaris and Valtatzis (the foreign minister) arrived in London on October 27 and saw the Marquess Curzon at the British Foreign Office.

Six of the accused - Gounaris, Theotokis, Valtatzis, Stratos, Protopapadakis, and General Hatzianestis - were sentenced to death and executed the next morning, while Admiral Goudas and General Stratigos were sentenced to imprisonment for life.
Following the execution of Gounaris and his companions the British government instructed the British minister at Athens to ask for his passports and leave Greece; nor had diplomatic relations between the two countries been renewed by the end of the year.

He is succeeded by the fourth in this period government of Dimitrios Rallis, that will be summoned to deal with the aftermath of the military coup of Goudi.

Prince Andrew escaped the death sentence due to the negotiations of Gerald Talbot, a personal friend of Eleftherios Venizelos, with the RMC who had been dispatched to Athens by Venizelos to intervene in the trial of the 6.
Gounaris still retained the Premiership and enjoyed the support in the Greek Chamber whereas " Theotokis with his thoroughly offensive Potsdam training, manages to keep to the fore and it is hinted is biding his time to seize the reigns of power."
I don’t know what, but we must stop bluffing and the face the situation at it really is." If Gounaris’ Government had known the contents of this personal letter, then it would have further undermined its position in the Greek Chamber.
