 NPAs ATTACK LOGGING AREA, BURN 20 TRUCKS IN ISABELA
Juvenal Narcise, commander of the Army’s 702nd Infantry Brigade, said the rebels burned 20 trucks, a bulldozer, a forklift and a 4x4 pick-up truck belonging to the Philippine Aggregates Timber Export Co. (Pateco).
Narcise said the vehicles were on their way to the company’s logging concession on Mount Dinapigue at the boundary of Isabela, Quirino and Aurora provinces when they were accosted by the rebels at an NPA checkpoint at around 4 p.m.
Narcise said it was the second time that the NPA had vandalized a logging firm’s property since Nov. 15 when a band of about 50 NPA rebels burned power houses, generators and a cargo vessel belonging to the Diapitan Resources Development Corp. (DRDC), a Pateco subsidiary in Dilasag, Aurora.

 Agaton' brings rains, landslides to villages
ILAGAN, ISABELA - Continuous rains brought by Tropical Depression Agaton since Wednesday have flooded 100 low-lying areas in Isabela's 35 towns and in the cities of Cauayan and Santiago.
In Aurora province, heavy rains have submerged all 24 villages in Casiguran town under two to eight feet of floodwaters, and triggered landslides that isolated the northern parts of the province, Gov. Bellaflor Castillo-Angara told the Inquirer by phone.
In the coastal town of Dinapigue, Mayor Renato Candido said six barangays were isolated by flash floods.

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is urging the Isabela provincial government to immediately declare beaches in the towns of Dinapigue, Palanan and San Mariano, all covered by the Northern Sierra Madre Natural Park, sanctuaries for endangered sea turtles.
She said interest in the Northern Sierra Madre Natural Park was revived following a survey conducted last July by the WWF and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources of the park’s 120-kilometer coastline.
The survey showed that a significant number of green turtle eggs were hatched on the beaches of Dinapigue, Palanan and Isabela.

Mangaoang said the Dumagats approved the mining project, which is backed by the national government, during a multisectoral consultative meeting held in the Dinapigue town proper last Aug. 19.
Aside from more than 300 Dumagats, Dinapigue officials and representatives of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), the DENR and anti-mining groups attended the Aug. 19 meeting.
Mangaoang said the proponents of the project, the Platinum Group and Metals Inc., have expected opposition from the anti-mining advocates led by the Catholic Church and left-leaning groups in the region.

Suspected members of the New People's Army (NPA) stormed the police station in Dinapigue, Isabela province and carted several firearms from the armory, ABS-CBN Regional Network Group reported.
Senior Superintendent Percival Barba, Isabela provincial police chief, said at least 50 guerillas aboard a truck raided the police station at around 5:30 p.m.
Barba said the rebels disarmed the policemen on duty and took two M-14 and two M-16 rifles and three shotguns from the station armory.
