DINDIGUL : The Ministry of Environment and Forests will organise a national environmental awareness campaign throughout the State focussing on solid waste management of household, municipal, bio-medical, plastic, electronic and industrial wastes such as fly ash and composting, vermicomposting and waste management at higher altitude.
DINDIGUL: The Central Government, through State Governments, should establish 24-hour residential facilities with coaching classes for children, both girls and boys, engaged in domestic work, restaurants, tea shops, roadside eateries, hotels, motels and resorts, after their rehabilitation and till they get admissions in June 2007.

 The Hindu Business Line : Minimum price guaranteed for Dindigul, Theni maize growers
MAIZE growers in Dindigul and Theni districts will be ensured a minimum guaranteed price under a pilot project launched by the National Agriculture Cooperative Marketing Federation Ltd in association with the Agriculture Department.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Jagmohan Singh Raju, speaking to the media persons at Dindigul recently, said that under the project, 5,000 tonnes would to be procured from Dindigul and Theni districts at Rs 525 per quintal, for which payment would be made in three days.
With the aim of eliminating middlemen and protecting farmers from price crash, maize would be procured from farmers when the market prices are higher than the guaranteed price and in the case of a crash, farmers would be paid the agreed price of Rs 525 per quintal.

IN a reversal of a three-decade old stance, the Tamil Nadu Government has decided to permit the establishment of an integrated winery and distillery project to support the grape growers in Theni and Dindigul districts.
According to sources, the move has evoked a lot of interest among the corporate houses in the liquor trade since the last permit was granted in the 1970s.
Over the last few years, major corporate houses such as the UB group, Amrut Distilleries and Shaw Wallace have evinced interest in establishing a project utilising the grape available in the area, and had been awaiting the State Government's nod, said sources.
