Nonetheless, she enjoyed several years of enormous popularity just before her death in the early 1930s, and she did perform the greatest double take in movie history (responding to Jean Harlow's "I was reading a book the other day...," setting up the closing line in 1933's Dinner at Eight).
Was named the top box-office star of 1933 by the Motion Picture Herald, based on an annual poll of exhibitors as to the drawing power of movie stars at the box-office conducted by Quigley Publications.
A lifelong performer with experience in light opera as well as vaudeville and the legitimate stage, she was lucky enough to costar opposite Charlie Chaplin for her film debut in Tillie's Punctured Romance (1914).

Kaufman's work with the Marx Brothers included writing their second Broadway hit, "The Cocoanuts." He was also a screenwriter on "A Night At The Opera." "The Man Who Came To Dinner," included in this collection, was loosely based on Alexander Woollcott, and features the character, "Banjo," based on Harpo Marx.
But Morrie Ryskind acted as screenwriter on several Marx Brothers films and wrote some of their best material (the title is taken from one of Groucho's most famous lines, from the movie "Animal Crackers").
The program ran for about six months, from November 1932 through May 1933, and featured Groucho as Waldorf T. Flywheel, Attorney at Law, and Chico as Emmanuel Ravelli, his assistant.
