A special problem with the Disney dinosaurs is that since they talk, their faces have to have a softness and flexibility that is not appropriate.
The iguanodon was one of the first dinosaurs discovered, named, and studied in the early nineteenth century, and I believe it was the first dinosaur for which a complete skeleton was found.
No matter which portrayals of dinosaurs you prefer, it’s interesting to remember that when the first iguanodon fossils were found, their spiked thumbs were so unlike anything ever before seen on an animal that they were drawn with horns.

Dinosaur movie review by Jim Eadon
Dinosaur is about an iguanodon who is orphaned and raised by monkeys far too advanced for their geological age.
Instead of building up to a tense climax, this movie more is like a rollercoaster, but not in the usual sense of the analogy: the allusion to repeated ups and downs.
Rather, Dinosaur takes to the apex right away, casts you down furiously, and then for the rest of the ride it gradually grinds you to a halt, never again subjecting you to the exhilaration of that initial build up and fall.

Dinosaur tells the story of Aladar, a dinosaur who, as an unhatched egg, floats across rivers and oceans into a land where he is taken in by strangers to his kind.
Dinosaur would have worked better had they not gone for a kid's movie -- or if, as Pixar did with the Toy Story series, they had attempted to make an intelligent, sweet film that pleases both children and adults.

MediaCircus.net: Dinosaur Movie Review by Anthony Leong
The story begins in the age of the dinosaurs, and events in the film imply that it is close to the twilight of the Cretaceous period.
Like "The Lion King" and "Tarzan" before it, "Dinosaur" follows the story of an orphan who is adopted by a surrogate family, grows up, learns the way of the world, becomes a leader, and falls in love, all within an hour-and-a-half (in this case, 75 minutes, not including end credits).
Mind you, there were moments in "Dinosaur" where it seemed that the script was ready to fully flesh-out some of its characters, such as adding some dimension and internal conflict to Kron's hard-driving style, but alas, it never materialized.

But the reunion celebrations are short: the dinosaurs' leader, a fellow Iguanodon named Kron (Samuel E. Wright, who voiced Little Mermaid's Sebastian the Crab) adheres to a strict survival-of-the-fittest philosophy, mercilessly pressing the herd the forward and leaving stragglers to be devoured by the predatory Carnotaurs hot on their trail.
Dinosaur's characters seem to be digitally created stand-ins for characters in a more interesting movie, perhaps the one that Pixar would have made were they inclined to do a dinosaur flick.
And the beginning of Dinosaur — where the patriarch of a lemur clan is reluctant to take in a "dangerous" outsider baby who eventually proves himself and becomes a leader — is straight out of Tarzan.

Movie review: Disney’s Dinosaur—deadly drama and dabs of Darwinism!
The idea of a computer-animated dinosaur film has been bandied about for more than 10 years at the Disney company, but the technology to produce the stunning visual effects was born just a few years ago.
The main theme that recurs in Dinosaur is that the key to “survival of the fittest” is being compassionate and cooperative, as Aladar often is. In other words, rather than portraying Darwinian competition as necessary for survival, the movie’s central theme is that “cooperation” is essential to stay alive.
