Dinwiddie County was established May 1, 1752 from Prince George County.
In the county, the population was spread out with 24.00% under the age of 18, 6.70% from 18 to 24, 30.90% from 25 to 44, 26.20% from 45 to 64, and 12.20% who were 65 years of age or older.

Dinwiddie County was established on 1 May 1752 from the western portion of Prince George County.
At the time of its formation, it was bounded by the following counties: Chesterfield on the north, Amelia on the north and west, Brunswick and Surry on the south, and Prince George County on the east.
Dinwiddie's records survived the Revolutionary conflicts and the attacks made by Tarleton in the area; however, in the closing days of the Civil War, Union troops ransacked the county, including the courthouse, and either destroyed or carried away most of the county's records as souvenirs.

Virginia Regiment went into training at the Colonial Capital of Williamsburg, Virginia.  The town was described as a relative backwater holding the seat of government and the Collage of William and Mary.  Williamsburg had one main street, lined with about 100 wooden houses.
Virginia Battalion were ill in September.  By December their numbers reporting for duty were 25 officers and 166 soldiers.  (from “A Guide to Virginia Military Organizations in the American Revolution 1774-1787 by E.M. Sanchez-Saaiedra,Virginia State Library 1978.
Christian County tax lists, which begin in 1797, show a 12345 number system: 1-white males 21+; 2-white males 16-21; 3-fls 16+; 4-total fls, 5-horses, mares, cattle.  If the numbering system is only 1234, then white males 16-21 are omitted.  It appears the record keeper or transcriber sometimes becomes confused on rivers or streams.

The Dinwiddie's were a border clan, long chief proprietors in the parish of Applegarth, Anandale, Dumfries-shire.
Their earliest known chief was Alleyn Dinwithie whose name is found on the roll of Scotsmen (for some unknown reason called "Ragman's Roll") who submitted on honorable terms to Edward I at the time of his invasion of Scotland in 1296.
A later chief, Thomas, was killed in the Dinwiddie Tower by the Jardines in 1503, and the Jardines were credited with slaying the Laird of Dinwiddie in 1512 in the streets of Edinburgh.
