 Roermond
The Diocese of Roermond was established in 1559, during the reign of Philip II, when after long and difficult negotiations with the papacy the dioceses of the Netherlands were reorganized.
The reorganization of the dioceses, however, met with violent opposition, partly from bishops to whose territories the new dioceses had formerly belonged, partly from a number of abbots whose abbeys were incorporated in the new bishoprics.
In Roermond the first bishop, Lindanus, who was consecrated in 1563, could not enter upon his duties until 1569; notwithstanding his zeal and charitableness he was obliged to retire on account of the revolutionary movement; he died Bishop of Ghent.

Roermond (L) Archaeological research has pointed out that the current city of Roermond is the successor of a Roman settlement at the location where the rivers Maas (Meuse) and Roer (Ruhr) meet.
In 1559 Roermond became an episcopal city, but already in 1572, in the 80-years War, it lost this position again when it was captured by protestant troops, who lost the city to Spanish troops several times.
Roermond is the place of birth of P.J.H. Cuypers, who was Roermond's town-architect for some time, but after that also carried out several projects in the city.

Under the auspices of Archbishop von Vicari of Freiburg, a novitiate and normal school were established; the latter was affiliated with the educational department of Karlsruhe.
She went to St. Louis where through the efforts of Father Muehlsiepen, Vicar- General of St. Louis, the Sisters of the Precious Blood were received into the Archdiocese of St. Louis (1872) and obtained charge of a number of schools in Missouri and Nebraska.
The O'Fallon community was incorporated (1878) under the laws of the State of Missouri with the right of succession, under the legal title of St. Mary's Institute of O'Fallon, Mo. The sisters conduct schools in the Archdiocese of St. Louis, and in the Dioceses of Alton, Kansas City, Lincoln, and Omaha.

For 6 years in Nunhem (Diocese of Roermond in the South-East of the Netherlands) the Dutch Chapter of the Paris-Chartres Pilgrimage has a permit to celebrate the H. Mass according to the 1962 Missal once a year by the opportunity of the reunion of the international pilgrims.
Although a number of rather young diocese priests likes the Tridentine Rite and is using that particular Rite in private Masses, because of the measures that will be taken by the Bishops these priests are afraid to use that Rite in public.
So for example in the Diocese of Roermond a number of relative young parish priests, about 6% of the active priests, are afraid of measures, like suspension and loosing their income.

Ritzen moved to Antwerpen in 1924 and the conservative clergy of Limburg, who in many cases still clung to neo-Gothicism, prevented Boosten from getting further assignments for churches until 1929, except for one enlargement.
By that time the climate for progressive church architecture had improved, and although he ultimately became the most important architect of churches in the Roermond diocese Boosten would never get such a big assignment again.
