They were Dion and The Belmonts (named for a neighborhood street - Belmont Avenue), and the members were Dion DiMucci - lead, Fred Milano and Angelo D'Aleo on tenor, and Carlo Mastroangelo on bass.
By late spring Dion and The Belmonts were readying their new Laurie release on #3027, called "A Teenager In Love".
The song was "When You Wish Upon A Star", and again the Belmonts and Dion made the charts though not anywhere as dominant a position as the two previous hits.

Dion started singing age five, appeared on Paul Whiteman show ten years later, cut first disc 'The Chosen Few' '57 backed by the Timberlanes on Mohawk label.
Under management pressure Dion left group (trio had two top 30s '61--2); rockaballad 'Lonely Teenager' made no. 12 '60, but return to earlier style (and uncredited Del-Satins as backup) took 'Runaround Sue' (dedicated to future wife, song by friend/mentor Ernie Maresca) to no. 1.
Recorded in folk-rock vein; had reunited with Belmonts for ABC LP '68, then for rock'n'roll revival gig at Madison Square Garden '73: live recording Reunion was a hit.

Dion's natural affinities and abilities were further honed on the stoops and on the street corners of Cartona Avenue, where he rounded up other local singers, inventing acapella licks.
But the vitality of the music lived on when Dion, venturing out as a solo artist in 1960, racked up a string of #1 hits that many still consider to be the best of that, or any other era.
Dion cut one quintessential rock classis after another, from the rocker "Runaround Sue" to the driving "lovers Who Wander" to the anthemic "The Wanderer" - it was an unparalleled musical feat that elevated him to the top ranks of recording artists.

Sure, he was the greatest doo wop singer of them all, but he was also the king of the New York streets, a blues singer extraordinaire, and a man who could reach the very bottom of a teenager's broken heart with his passionate slow songs of love and loss.
This particular collection from Dion and the Belmonts, Save the Last Dance For Me, is interesting because it consists of songs made famous by other singers.
I think Dion's version of Save the Last Dance For Me should be the standard version of the song, and I'm still amazed by the fact that I enjoy his version of Dream Lover more than Del Shannon's classic recording of it.
