Zamboanga del Sur is a province of the Philippines located in the Zamboanga Peninsula region in Mindanao.
Its capital is Ipil and it borders Zamboanga del Norte to the north, Zamboanga del Sur to the east and Zamboanga City to the southwest.
Zamboanga Sibugay is the newest province in the Philippines, created in 2001, when the third district of Zamboanga del Sur split off.

ZAMBOANGA CITY — Two miners were killed and four others were missing after a mineshaft collapsed on them in Zamboanga Sibugay, police said yesterday.
The main shaft at the coal mine, a joint venture of the state-owned Philippine National Oil Co. and TOMC, a private firm, in Barangay Poblacion, Diplahan town, collapsed on Tuesday, trapping six miners, Director General Vidal Querol, chief of the Western Mindanao Area Police Command, said.
The bodies of two miners had been recovered while efforts were continuing to dig out the other four, he said.
