Digimorph - Dipsosaurus dorsalis (desert iguana)
Dipsosaurus dorsalis, the desert iguana, occurs in southeastern California, southern Nevada, southwestern Utah, western and south-central Arizona, eastern and southern Baja California, northwestern Mexico, and some of the Gulf of California islands.
Dipsosaurus dorsalis both emerges and remains active later in the day than most lizards, and body temperatures of 45° C have been recorded -- well above lethal levels for most lizard species.

The influence of corticosterone and glucagon on metabolic recovery from exhaustive exercise in the desert iguana Dipsosaurus dorsalis.
We measured the effects of 5 min of exhaustive exercise on plasma levels of glucagon and corticosterone in the desert iguana Dipsosaurus dorsalis.
To understand the influence of selected hormones on this process, we measured changes in plasma catecholamines and corticosterone resulting from exercise in the lizard Dipsosaurus dorsalis and then investigated the physiological effects of those hormones on skeletal muscle lactate and glucose metabolism in vitro.

We describe a method for measuring metabolic rates (MRs) of ectotherms using successive measurements of radionuclide body burdens, which may provide an alternative means of measuring field metabolic rate (FMR).
We compared the rates of elimination of seven radionuclides with estimates of MRs (CO production) from DLW measurements in the desert iguana, Dipsosaurus dorsalis.

Bipedal and quadrupedal locomotion in lizards
1 are the desert iguana (Dipsosaurus dorsalis), the zebra-tailed lizard (Callisaurus draconoides), the Mojave fringe-toed lizard (Uma scoparia), the desert horned lizard (Phrynosoma platyrhinos), and the western whiptail (Cnemidophorus tigris tigris).
These five species span a wide range of different terrestrial lizard phenotypes, and their phylogenetic relationships are well resolved.
Another striking feature of high-speed locomotion was the highly extended hindlimb and the very large knee angles, which reached as high as 130 degrees.
