Direct Client-to-Client - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Direct Client-to-Client (DCC) is an IRC-related sub-protocol enabling peers to interconnect using an IRC server for handshaking in order to exchange files or perform non-relayed chats.
In a normal DCC connection the initiator acts as the server, and the target is the client.
DCC Server provides no way specifying the port to use, so this has to be negotiated manually, which is not always possible, as one of the sides may not be a human.

Internet Relay Chat - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This message is used to tell clients what features the server supports, and what its limits are (for example, the maximum number of users you can have on your notify list, or the maximum length of your nickname).
One holdover of this is that joining channel 0 causes a client to leave all the channels it is presently on: "CHANNEL 0" being the original command to leave the current channel.
IRC is a plaintext protocol, which means that it is fully possible (though quite inconvenient) to use IRC via a basic byte-stream client such as netcat or telnet.

How to use DCC (Direct Client to Client)
Unlike normal IRC communication, DCC communication doesn't transit through the servers but are sent directly from a client to another one.
In case the IRC network splits, the DCC CHAT survives (meaning you may not see the other person on IRC but you will still be able to chat).
Using DCC, you can usually establish faster communications, which are also more secure because of the absence of intermediary nodes other than those imposed by the Internet routing, and transfer files.

Thus, if the lawyer learns that the client, as a result of direct discussions with the adverse party, is about to enter into an unfavorable settlement or commit some other act prejudicial to the client's position, the lawyer may be obligated to take some action to attempt to protect the client's interests.
In other cases, the client may inform his or her lawyer first and ask whether such a direct client-to-client communication would be permissible or advisable.
For example, the lawyer may not, consistent with his or her professional obligations to the client, fail to take action if the lawyer is aware that the client is engaged in or contemplating conduct that would be detrimental to the client's interest in the context of the representation.

Clients in environments not offering the epoch time value may send a 0 value, which should be interpreted by the recipient as an indication that resumed transfers are not supported and return a 0 value, taking appropriate steps to rename or create a new name for the incoming file.
Clients should always ignore this request, allowing only a script to generate a response no restrictions on content are imposed.
As RFC 1459 offers no direct means to exchange such requests, a protocol built upon RFC1459's is required.
