Dirty Den is set to make a dramatic return to EastEnders after 14 years, the BBC have confirmed.
Actor Leslie Grantham, who played Dennis Watts in the BBC1 show from 1985 to 1989, is coming back to Albert Square after 12 months of negotiations, a BBC spokeswoman said.
Den's exit from the show was left open, although many viewers assumed he was dead after a confrontation with a gunman beside a canal.

This week, as the tension was supposedly building towards the denouement of Den’s demise, I realised I didn’t care whether his murderer turns out to be his hairdressing harridan of a wife, Chrissie, or Zoe, his son’s former lover who he recently happened to impregnate, or hapless bimbette Sam.
The turning-off point was on the cards the moment Dirty Den strolled back on to the Square, swanning into the nightclub to greet his daughter Sharon with a nonchalant "Allo, Princess".
Killing off Den for good is one of the best decisions that the production team have made for a long time.

We were promised some top-notch episodes to mark Den’s return, but what we’ve actually had so far is three of EastEnders’; dreaded two-handers, dressed up with a few frames of third-party action so it wasn’t too obvious.
Monday was billed as Den’s comeback episode, but the great man didn’t appear until the last 10 seconds, the rest having been filled by Dennis and his adoptive sister Sharon bellowing at each other with only an (off-screen) bonk for interruption.
Tuesday saw Sharon giving Den a 30-minute earful for letting her think he was dead, broken only by the occasional shot of Dennis giving Vicky an earful for not letting Den know he was alive.
