Dirty Work (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It is the last movie Chris Farley worked on before he died.
The film was the first starring role for MacDonald and was released on June 12, 1998, just months after he was fired from Saturday Night Live.
Dirty Work was also the first movie directed by Bob Saget, who left his long-running role as host of America's Funniest Home Videos to concentrate on a directing career.

One of the weaker parts of the film is the budding romance between Mitch and his neighbor, Kathy, played by Traylor Howard.
One great feature of the film is the work of the costume designer, Beth Pasternak, who recently worked on the acclaimed indie film The Sweet Hereafter.
Dirty Work is a formula: SNL comics + average plot + toilet humor (literally, there’s a joke involving a toilet).

Verey seems to hover over Greenfingers, the charming new film about a group of hardened British prison inmates whose lives are transformed by their exposure to gardening ("greenfingers" translates as "green thumb" in America).
The film stars Clive Owen, so memorable in Croupier, as Colin Briggs, a sullen, antisocial murderer who, nearing the end of his 15-year sentence, has been transferred to HMP (Her Majesty's Prison) Edgefield, a minimum-security prison in the Cotswolds, a typically picturesque spot in the Midlands.
The English countryside is lovely; the film's score has a bouncy, appealing beat; and the humor is gentle and inoffensive.

DVD REVIEW: "DIRTY WORK"   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-09)
In what has to be one of the shortest, non-animated feature films to be released this decade, former "Saturday Night Live" performer Norm MacDonald follows a long tradition of cast members from that show who've made a go at moving up to the big screen.
The late Chris Farley once again is wasted in yet another over acted role (that's supposed to elicit laughs from having part of his nose previously being bitten off by a prostitute) and Chevy Chase's movie career continues to plummet in his near humorless role as a gambling addicted surgeon.
While I found a few bits to be marginally funny, one's reaction to the film will depend on their appetite for low brow, sophomoric humor (and repeated shots of MacDonald being tossed into a trash dumpster or repeatedly landing in a belly flop on the sidewalk).

Film Review: 'Dirty Work': A Brain-Dead Comedy
About the only thing roused by "Dirty Work," directed by Bob Saget, a host of "America's Funniest Home Videos," is the suspicion that sleeping pills have been administered to most of the cast, which includes Chevy Chase as a doctor in thrall to gamblers and Don Rickles as a nasty theater manager.
Others responsible for the low comic wattage of "Dirty Work" include Norm Macdonald, a "Saturday Night Live" alumnus who was a co-writer of the script and shares with Artie Lange the onerous burden of having to act in it.
For parched wanderers in the desert of comedy that is "Dirty Work," this scene makes memories of the Marx Brothers at work on "Il Trovatore" in "A Night at the Opera" seem like the happiest of hallucinations.

In fact, in the book from which the film was made one of their comrades is overcome by the noxious gases within the sewers and suffocates.
Nonetheless their lives are seen as heroic; they receive awards and medals from the highest sources; their comrades shower them with honours and acclaim; every soldier in Stalingrad wants to join them; and the unit itself has the highest morale possible despite its privations.
