Disadvantaged - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The current economy in the United States is one that has divided the rich and the poor, with the rich taking the bulk of the gains in productivity of the last several decades.
The majority of the most truly disadvantaged people live in the developing world with no or insufficient readily available running water, electricity or sanitation.
A current problem for the richest nations is the fact that many terrorists come from parts of the world where they have limited opportunities for advancement.

JVTE v14n1: EFFECTS OF ECONOMIC DISADVANTAGED STATUS AND SECONDARY VOCATIONAL EDUCATION ON ADOLESCENT WORK EXPERIENCE ...
Students experiencing economic disadvantage have been targeted for special assistance in vocational education because they constitute almost one-quarter of the U.S. school population, and of a growing realization that poverty can have a tremendous impact on the ability to learn (Kozol, 1991; Smith et al., 1995).
Disadvantaged youth, at all levels of program involvement, were twice as likely to aspire to some type of 2-year postsecondary education than nondisadvantaged peers.
For example, one way to address potential problems of disproportionate enrollment of disadvantaged youth or of lowered educational and occupational aspirations is to involve economically disadvantaged adolescents and those in vocational programs in transition planning efforts that identify specific postcollege occupational and educational alternatives that realistically reflect ability and interest.

Married and Poor: Basic Characteristics of Economically Disadvantaged Couples in the U.S. - Working Paper
Some aspects of disadvantage may operate through individual- or couple-level characteristics (e.g., growing up in a family headed by a single parent with low education, low current family income), while others operate through neighborhood-level characteristics (e.g., few married couples in the community to serve as role models).
The fragility of marriages among disadvantaged couples is one strong rationale for efforts to strengthen marriage in low-income populations.
In this paper, we have provided an initial descriptive appraisal of the population of disadvantaged married couples in the U.S. Comparing couples along several indicators of economic disadvantage, we have looked at marriage entries and exits, at the timing of first parenthood relative to marriage, at demographic and economic characteristics, and at marital quality.
