	Katatonia - Satan Stole My Teddybear
		As the precursor to the full length Discouraged Ones that showcased the "new" Katatonia style, Saw You Drown was a highly effective EP that succienctly summarized the statement the band was attempting to make.
		Discouraged Ones acts as the second half of a blueprint that has become Katatonia's core sound (Brave Murder Day acts as the first half) and set this band in motion to hopefully become one of the premier acts in the music world, period.
		When I first bought Discouraged Ones, my major complaint was that Katatonia's new direction didn't seem to have a compass and map out, causing a whole lot of wandering on the album.

		The first two tracks 'Saw you Drown' and 'Nerve' can also be found on the 'Discouraged Ones' album and the forth track 'Scarlet Heavens' was previously released on another limited EP.
		It is a slow, numb and catatonic sounding track that would have fitted on 'Discouraged Ones' with ease.
		Already having left their more metal sound behind on 'Discouraged Ones' they continue the way one would expect them too.

	Rough Edge: Katatonia CD Reviews
		I listened to "Discouraged Ones" for the first time right after I heard Circle Of Dead Children's chaotically brutal "The Genocide Machine." As such, Katatonia's brand of melancholy seemed particularly more morose than I could have ever expected.
		To the casual listener "Discouraged Ones" is a very bitter pill to swallow.
		The listener should immerse themselves and wallow in the somber proceedings - not a task to be taken lightly.

		I’ve been a big fan of Katatonia ever since their realease “Discouraged Ones", which was, and is, a fantastic record.
		Although their output has been slightly disappointing of late, I had high hopes that this record would be at least as good as the last one.
		With Black Murder Day, they peeled away from this limited genre a little, and their next release, Discouraged Ones, left them with a decent singer, some great minor harmonic tunes, and some fantastic lyrics (Deadhouse: “headlights fuck the city").

		Adequately capturing the profound impact that 'Discouraged Ones' made on me is flawed with pitfalls.
		That was just toe-in-the-water time, whereas 'Discouraged Ones' was a full-on backlip from the top board.
		Unnervingly for some, the cocktail mixture of despondency and desolation resonated a little to close to home, and made 'Discouraged Ones' one of the the most deeply mind-fucking releases of recent times.

	Encyclopaedia Metallum - Reviews for Katatonia (Swe) - Tonight's Decision
		They have continued with a tight two guitar distorted attack which gives Katatonia an incredible wall of sound for this release as they did on Discouraged Ones which is the basis for their sound on this album as well.
		One of the things that impresses me most is that they have managed to make a fresh new spin on this album which could be considered similar to their previous release Discouraged Ones at times (see intro of Right Into The Bliss).
		Having left their more metal sound behind on Discouraged Ones, Katatonia continue as expected, releasing another deeply emotional album of the highest quality.

		Cleanly sung vocals (at times reminiscent of the Cure's Robert Smith) have replaced the agonizing growls of Dance of December Souls, while the songs themselves -- averaging about four minutes apiece -- are much more compact than their previous extended epics.

		‘Discouraged ones’ is a more rockish/gothic release, repetitive, more or less the same song pattern and simple to the bone.
		The vocals are a mixture of deep growl ones with screamy ones with some nice effect touches in them.
		Sometimes the music goes to the extremist of rock stuff and commercial gothic and this can be heard easily on many parts were the guitar is in the clean mode.

		I am decidedly NOT a fan of this band and was expecting not a damn thing from this disc.
		They still have some severe limitations with their frustratingly repetitive rhythm guitar sound but the clean vocals, moody atmosphere and subdued sound are all fairly enjoyable and even sound sincere.

		Last year, I happened upon a momentous musical discovery, Katatonia's CD Brave Murder Day (which also included their EP For Funerals To Come).
		Their entrancing and haunting melodies with just a touch of death metal hooked me. Discouraged Ones is the Swedes' successor and though the death-like vocals are gone, Katatonia have created another staggeringly great CD of darkly melodic metal.
		Hopefully, with the majesty of Discouraged Ones, metal, alternative, and even Goth fans may take notice.

		However, with the release of VE, I was disgusted to learn that all of a sudden accusations of becoming a ‘nu-metal’ band was flying towards us.
		The best thing I ever saw, are people coming to our concerts, not looking at the band, but standing with their eyes closed singing along.
		There has been a good bit of banter over the years about Katatonia’s shift to more emotional metal (mainly in the albums starting with Discouraged Ones).
