 | | Discrete data are also known as count data since all discrete data can be counted. |
 | | Examples include: the number of eggs in a clutch (1, 2, 3...), the number of plants in a quadrat (1, 2, 3, 4....) and the number of mice turning left in a maze (1, 2, 3, 4,....). |
 | | If the number of counts is very large data are generally assumed to be continuous, for example the number of red blood cells can only be a discrete number but the possible values are so large that we treat this variable as continuous. |
