Lewton: The star of Discworld Noir, Lewton is the Discworld's first PI, and former watchman who left the watch in mysterious circumstances who he finds himself in a whole lot of trouble when a broad walks into his office and gives him a case that turns out to be more complicated than it looks.
Well-known characters, scenes and dialogue are all given the Discworld treatment (Sidney Greenstreet in the form of an unusually articulate Troll and a Peter Lorre Dwarf) and part of the fun is in identifying the reference source.
The game's plot is very highly developed, especially for a computer game, with lots of magic and murder--and I would say it's at least as good as Jane Jensen's stories for the Gabriel Knight games.

Readers and players who are familiar with the Discworld series of books and the two previous computer games may be interested in why it was so easy to make a connection between the film noir movies of the 1940s and early 1950s and the new Discworld Noir adventure game.
The game provides a map, which serves as a convenience in moving from one location to another, especially since Lewton is required to travel around quite a bit.
It is an interesting feature for the second half of the game that will inspire your nasal senses to perform at their utmost level of sensory excellence in order to progress through the game.

 Review: Discworld 2
Since Discworld gained so much popularity--especially among European readers--it was only a question of time before it would spawn spin-offs in other media--and it did when the adventure game Discworld appeared, to be followed shortly by another adventure.
If you do know Discworld, however, you are aware of the fact that Rincewind is one of the least magical persons in existence and is only a wizard because he wears a pointy hat and a dress.
The game is not entirely serious, and Rincewind has always funny comments like, "They can't kill me yet, the game has barely started," or, "What, no pointless puzzles and quests?" I like this kind of game much better than the type that pretends to be dead serious even if it's still only a game.

What this program does is move the value 0006 into the register the computer understands as 'ax', then moves the value 0002 into the register the computer understands as 'bx'.
In order for the computer to understand a high level language, it is necessary for the code to be converted into machine language.

And while, after many runs through the game, I can usually finish it in about eight to ten hours, the first time I played through it took a few months of puzzling before I reached the end, and that was with help from a few rudimentary walkthroughs.
For starters, although the game is split into four acts (well, three acts and a short closer), each act is extremely open-ended, which can be a wonderful thing when used well, or can turn a great game into a nightmare when done poorly.
In my opinion (and isn't that the only one that really matters?), Discworld is seriously overlooked, and could easily have taken a place next to some of the best of the genre, though it stops short of being a classic simply due to its sheer difficulty and the unwieldy nature of the game.

As I crisscrossed the game world, hunting and gathering, I was struck by how easily I fell into the rhythm of the game, how fluidly I moved from puzzle to puzzle, drawn along by the unfolding story.
This game is a prime example of how puzzle and story should each reinforce the other, and for that reason alone it serves as a precursor to and model of the way adventure games are being made today—simpler puzzles, more story.

Throughout most of the game, you get a background scene with characters superimposed on it, bobbing as if listening to a private little tune, moving their lips and waving their arms, but all the while no onscreen action is taking place.
Now, I do realize that classic old-style adventure games rely heavily on conversing, but there was simply too much in this game, especially since there was nothing to watch except the bobbing heads and waving arms of Lewton and whomever he was talking to while listening to what they were saying.

Discworld Noir feels more true to Pratchett’s Discworld than the other games in the Discworld series, even though there are less familiar characters and locations.
May be it is because the original game has been criticized for all the heavy drinking in a computer game that is aimed for family entertainment.

This is the third* Discworld computer game (based on Terry Pratchett's 'Discworld' if you didn't know already).
It's a point and click adventure game, but unlike the previous two, it absolutely reeks of atmosphere and style.
There are of course several object-based puzzles, but these generally aren't very difficult, and are refreshingly logical - unlike in Discworlds 1 and 2, which had rather more than their fair share of obscure and frustrating puzzles.
