Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels are ideal for conversion to humorous fantasy adventure games and the good news is that you don't need to have read them, much less be able to quote whole passages verbatim, to play and enjoy this title.
This first release of Discworld has been let down by the fairly substantial bug at the end (in the CD ROM version) and it is to be hoped that the patch will soon be available.
Discworld is a game played in four acts, well three and a bit really, and the excellent introduction suitably sets the scene.

It is based on the magical Discworld universe created by Pratchett from which a multitude of paperback novels have since been published.
Discworld is a third person adventure with animated sprites running over a hand drawn background.
Another game based on Pratchett's book was planned a few years before the release of Discworld, but that project was scrapped due to the lack of financial backing from the publisher and the apparent lack of market demand in graphic adventure games at that time.

 Discworld 1 Problems
I have downloaded Discworld 1 from Home of the Underdogs, replaced the decode.exe file as specified and ran the unpack.bat, but the Decode-program crashes at 99% (I ran it in win2000, guess there's the problem).
After recently purchasing discworld 1 (simply because i enjoyed it so much when i was little) the problem i have, like many on your problems page, is sound...
I downloaded Discworld One off of your site, (the newer one that's a hundred megs, and is the CD-rip version) and I burned it to a CD-R, and when I set the sound I found the right midi player (general MIDI) I ran the auto-detection, and it said that it was succesful.

 Discworld 1 (and 2?) to become freeware - Adventure Forums
Discworld 1 was a very hard game, as far as I remember.
Discworld Noir is based on the New Discworld Books (eventhough the New Books were just being published) in that it's based in Ankh Morpork, it's much darker it has a rather complicated plot and then there's the watch.
Discworld 1 was so rediculously hard and the dialogue is so drawn out it took me about 4 attempts and eventualy a walkthrough to complete.

Discworld Noir is still under development and will be published by GT, but Perfect have entered into legal discussions with Psygnosis, publishers of Discworld 1 and Discworld 2 for various reasons.
Perfect have said that unlike the previous two Discworld games, which were (and still are) distributed by Psygnosis, Discworld Noir is to be distributed by GT Interactive.
Discworld Noir will follow the adventures of Lewton, an ex-watchman and the Discworld's first Private Investigator, as he investigates his way through the Disc's seedy underworld.

If that wasn't bad enough, there's a troll with a one-track mind (and dialogue) who is making demands plus a dwarf with a large axe who wants you to drop the case.

It is set in the fantasy world of Discworld, a flat world on top of a disc which is balanced on the shoulders of four elephants who are all standing on Great A Tuin(sex unknown), the giant turtle who travels through space.
All in all I think that this book is a brilliant introduction to the Discworld series, which now has twenty eight books, and it grips you on every page with suspense, action and humour.
In The colour of magic there are, as an introduction to the Discworld series, four small novels where we follow Rincewind, a failed wizard who cannot memorize spells due to an accident in the unseen university(mage school).

 Discworld 1 save game problem - Adventure Forums
I just started playing Discworld which is nice, but it turns out I can't save my game.
Actually, while I empathise with the idea that since these games are no longer available to buy new it is OK to release them as "abandonware", it is simply NOT legal to distribute them without the copyright owner's permission - and Underdogs certainly does not have that permission for Discworld 1.
I simply can't understand why the copyright owners of these games don't re-release them again - you only have to look at the prices some of them fetch on eBay to see that it would be worthwhile producing another run of their games.

"Emma Scott" (< >) is totally stuck on Discworld Noir and the last clues she picked up were a trolls tooth, a fabric scrap and the fact that saphie lied.
It was stated right from the beginning that Discworld Noir was a p**s take of Noir films in the Discworld spirit.
There appears to be a big thing at the moment that PTerry seems to be just cashing in on "this Discworld thing" and "ripping other people off" with resonances such as the smurfs etc. Terry Pratchett writes humourous stories that are full of echoes of all the half forgotten things bumbling around in your head.

I know that Discworld 2 has some issues with sound, but it works.
I imagine that they both use the same (or similar) engine, so I'm not sure why Discworld 1 wouldn't.

Two of the most underrated adventure games ever, both Discworld games are based on Terry Pratchett's pun-filled fantasy Discworld series, in which the whole world is carried through space by a turtle, and idioms and puns do have a life of their own.
As bumbling wizard Rincewind, prevent the Dragon from destroying the world in Discworld 1 and find a way to convince the disillusioned Death to resume his day job in the sequel.
Both games have great humor (although dialogues drag on at times), and some of the most devious but logical puzzles ever designed.
