The mudlib is made public, and is the base code for many MUDs including the Realms of the Dragon and Final Realms.) The people who started it were Azuth, Elric and Tanis.

The comments about "world famous in the discworld mudding community" and the frequency of the discworld mudlib release cycle were me teasing you and were not meant in any serious way.

It is currently hosted at Ceres' house on a DSL line and runs on an Athlon 1.73G with 3 SCSI II disks and 1.5G of RAM.
The system runs RedHat Linux and Discworld uses the FluffOS driver (a fork of the LP MudOS driver) with the Discworld mudlib.

This is beyond the fact that Discworld is a niche market in some regards - in that its automatically got the attention of any Pratchett fan, and given its quality, even if they have not mudded that much before I would unknowingly say it has a fair chance of retaining them.
And don't get me started on Discworld's seven (+/-) yearly mudlib release cycle and how thats hardly any indication of life ;) I was only the other day lamenting to myself (my favourite audience) about how there was no quality mudding resources on the net.
Although I did add one or two muds that didn't use the Discworld mudlib at one stage *cough*, so if anyone is interested, feel free to ask.

The prototype was incompatible (in a non-trivial way) with a key idea of the real version, and when I objected to the silent and uninformed choice of adopting the prototype, I was told to "deal with it" if I wanted to continue work on it.
The actual code requires a mudlib similar to that of NewMoon (which in turn lifted their mudlib from the DiscWorld MUD).
Possibly useful for NewMoon creators, though I cannot make any claims of support for the hacks perpretrated against it since it was copied from one of my working directories, and if I do any substantial work on it, I am likely to make it reflect the intended API that the polished version was to have.

Though the MUD was given permission to charge players by Lars, this move was still controversial among the LPMud community who belived that Lars no longer had the right to give such permission given the amount of code which had been donated to LPMud from various sources.
The mudlib portion of the project was never officially released, but it became the basis for the Nightmare and TMI-2 Mudlibs.
Its mudlib is eventually released as the Nightmare Mudlib.
