 Crest - Small Diskmag-Pack-FAQ
However, this was the perfect moment to release a diskmag archive burned on a CD and which definitely includes all evident highlights that were published in previous years.
Therefore, the CD gives a distorted picture of the demoscene: the PC platform was the last one which adapted diskmags to spread latest news through the scene members.
The most important diskmags are the most durable ones: Hugi (place of residence of the editor is Austria) and PAiN (place of residence of the editor is Switzerland).

A diskmag on the other hand slaps you around the head with a distinctive and packed issue with a particular character and feel for the time it was put together.
Classic diskmags are still best at detailed reviews, and have the luxury of space for epic party reports and lengthy polems on the state of the scene among other things.
Of course, a diskmag has scope for miscellanous topics which may or not be connected with the scene.

 UCM 24 - NETVSMAG
Because of this situation, the diskmag editors started to check out the possible reasons for this and so do I. A thing I already found out long time before was the fact that the internet is slowly killing several domains that were filled out by diskmags in former times.
One big domain of diskmags in times as internet, mailboxes, bulletin boards and email were too expensive, too slow and not available for everyone, were the news about the things that are going on in the scene.
Also the IRC is destroying the need for this corner in the diskmags, esp. if you want to write some stuff that was going on, as you will write about stuff everybody knows already about and nobody cares about anymore.

Most diskmags are irregular, usually for the same reasons: Either the GFX, the music, the code or the articles aren't finished at the desired release date.
A mistake diskmag editors often make is that they write the editorial as the last article before finishing the mag.

In the last few years as a Diskmag it's seen the article contribution that it recieves dwindle and the content of the mag is but a third of what it once attained, over 1.5MB, yes 1.5 megabytes, of text.
Allowing you to view said content while commuting on the train or the bus, a quick sync in the morning giving you news content more relevant and cheaper than buying a newspaper or magazine to read during a similar point in time.
The diskmag now becomes just an archive of information from the previous period, articles/views etc collated into one manageable unit.
