Display Data Channel, a VESA standard for communication between a monitor and a video adapter.
Television sets and computer monitors display their pixels based on values of red, green, and blue.
The display capabilities of a computer, however, depend on both the logical circuitry (provided in the video adapter) and the display monitor.

Scotsmist Personal Computer Support - Explain Graphics Cards
The display memory is a major factor in determining the overall performance of the display adapter.
Display adapters actually use 32 bits in 24 bit true colour mode, where the high order byte of the 32 bit word is used to read the next pixel of data in the series.
Display memory is mapped into the lower 1 MB space of the system memory address space in a 128 or 64 KB block.

Monochrome Display Adapter - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Monochrome Display Adapter (MDA, also MDA card, Monochrome Display and Printer Adapter, MDPA) introduced in 1981 was IBM's standard video display card and computer display standard for the PC.
The MDA's high character resolution (sharpness) was a feature meant to facilitate business and wordprocessing use: Each character was rendered in a box of 9×14 pixels, of which 7×11 made out the character itself (the other pixels being used for space between character columns and lines).
IBM's original MDA included a parallel printer port (hence its original name of "Monochrome Display and Printer Adapter"), thus avoiding the need for a separate parallel interface on computers fitted with an MDA.

IRQ Conflicts with PCI Display Adapters --------------------------------------- If your PCI display adapter is configured by your BIOS to use IRQ 15 and a functioning secondary PCI IDE disk controller is also configured to use IRQ 15 (by default), Windows 95 assigns IRQ 15 to the IDE disk controller.
This forces your display adapter to use VGA mode.
Matrox MGA ---------- For proper operation, your adapter and monitor settings must be correct in the Matrox setup utility, which is usually located on your hard disk in the \Mga\Setup folder.

The output of the VGA converter is sent to the VGA adapter by one of the 15-pin connectors, where the vertical sync is sampled as the VGA signals continue on to the monitor.
The output of the shutter control circuit is sent to a DB-25 connector that mates to the one on the McNaughton shutter adapter (which generates the AC signal needed to operate the shutter glasses).
The sync adapter board in the camera module is going to throw away every other field from each camera's output, and combine the remaining fields into a single video stream of alternating left and right views.

Today, most systems are sold with a display adapter that connects to a PCI or VESA "local bus", supports some Windows accelerator, and provides SVGA resolutions.
The "accelerator" means that the display adapter can draw lines and boxes and can move windows and scroll text itself.
When any program writes to the screen (even when the display is powered off) the CPU must wait until the data or commands have been transferred to the display adapter.

If your display driver doesn't support "Add/Remove Programs" then you have to use one of the other approaches: if you're running Windows 95, 98, or ME, then you install the standard driver; or if you're running Windows 2000, or Windows XP, you uninstall the driver in the "Device Manager".
If you have more than one NVIDIA display adapter installed in your computer, removing the display driver will remove the drivers for all display adapters which are using it.

Given the large number of display modes and uses for the display adapters, it would be very easy to write a book as large as this one on the PC's display adapters alone However, this is not that text.
In particular, the 80 x 25 text display is nothing more than a two dimensional array of words with each word in the array corresponding a character on the screen.
Indeed, the earliest monochrome display adapters included only 4K on-board memory (contrast this with modern high density color display adapters that have up to four megabytes of on-board memory!).

System Information - VGA Cards, Video Card, Video Display Adapters, Graphics Accelerator, SVGA, VGA, Video Graphics ...
The amount of memory needed by a video adapter to display a particular resolution and color depth is a mathematical equation.
There has to be memory location used to display every dot (or pixel) on the screen, and the number of total dots is determined by the resolution.
When used to describe SVGA adapters, the term resolution has a specific meaning: it is the number of dots (pixels) on the screen, which is a function of the number of pixels displayed in one horizontal line multiplied by the number of pixels displayed in one vertical line.

The ability to display a combination of readable text and monochrome graphics is sufficient for many applications, so many users find the HGC an economic option.
A significant difference between the MCGA and the earlier display adapters is that the MCGA generates analog RGB video signals, whereas the others produce digital RGB signals.
The VGA is capable of higher display resolution modes such as 720 dot wide by 400 dot high in text modes, or 640 dot wide by 480 dot high in graphics modes.
