Double dissolutions of the parliament are provided for under section 57 of the Constitution when the House of Representatives and the Senate cannot agree on a Bill.
Therefore, a double dissolution election could occur as late as 21 July 2007 (based on maximum timetables), but with the usual minimum timetables, the latest date would be 23 June 2007.
If a double dissolution election were to take place such that the Senators were elected in the year before 1 July 2007, their term would commence from 1 July 2006.
