  Utada Hikaru - Wiki.theppn
Utada Hikaru was born in the upper east side of New York on January 19, 1983, and is the only child of Utada Teruzane and Abe Junko.
Utada's first single for 2002, Hikari, is very well known in the west because it was the Japanese theme song for the Playstation game Kingdom Hearts (the English version was later released as a B-side on her COLORS single).
Utada herself said that this was due to the fact that it was being used as the CM song for DoCoMo ads at the time (in which she herself featured).

Utada used Exodus as a way to reinvent herself and her music, as marked by abbreviating her name to just "Utada." She has dropped the mainstream r&b feel of First Love and Distance, and the personal pop feel of Deep River.
Utada is strong here lyrically, although that is not always the case for the rest of the album.
Utada is brilliant in most of her musical styles, I loved her R&B when I heard it, I've enjoyed her Pop (to a lesser extent) I just found this album to be something a bit different and a kind of mix of the two.

I deeply love Utada Hikaru and think this is a really good album, but it really pales in comparison to Deep River.
For one thing, she is still pretty fresh with her generation (weighing in at nearly 6 years younger than pop-princess-prospect Ayumi Hamasaki), making her ear just a tad closer to the music that enfluenced her as a song writer.
The fact that Utada is fluent in both Japanese and English (being born in Manhattan and all) and wants everyone to know it, doesn't help matters either.

Hikaru's voice is a bit thin, but it's far from annoying or grating like some of her US counterparts.
Her delivery is clean and uncomplicated, not resorting to any of the stylized and overdone vocal gimmicks that infect much of the pop music here in the states.
With no way to know what a song could possibly be about without looking up translations of the lyrics, I'm left to guess at each song's content based on the mood created by the music and by Hikaru's vocal interpretation of melody and the words she sings.

Albums: Hikki's two main albums are First Love and Distance, which are widely available in Japan and not too hard to find in other parts of East Asia.
The other album worth noting is Promise, which she recorded (inexplicably) under the name "Cubic U." Promise is almost entirely in English, and (imo) the songs on it aren't as good as the songs on the other two.
