Pistols were not neglected, and although the initial guidelines for establishing a Distinguished Badge for Pistol Shooters were a bit hazy, the pistol competition began to take hold after the turn of the last century with the first badges being issued in 1903.

The visualization technique consists of formulating a mental picture of what you want to accomplish, whether it be one single shot or a 5 shot string, it can be used to train yourself to stand still and hold still, to see your score in Increments of 100 or 300, or to visualize your entire aggregate.

The Red Badge of Courage: Critical Reception
Red Badge was a "tremendously effective battle painting;" the trial of a soldier in war, he maintained, "seems never to have been painted as well before" (118).
One of the most notable features of Red Badge's reception in America is the controversy about Crane's patriotism that raged in the pages of the Dial, a magazine owned by the conservative General Alexander C. McClurg.
Second, although much of General McClurg's commentary about Red Badge's lack of patriotism, for example, is overheated and irrelevant, he was not entirely wrong to suggest that Crane's novel raised potentially disquieting questions about the state of turn-of-the-century American society.
