Stormbringer - A Dream Of Death - Fireaxe
This is fast and furious, equally as ast are the drums, and the guitars are heavily distorted.
The guitar work is superb, great sounds and again there is quite a bit of distorted guitar.
The vocals are powerful, in the middle of the track there's some nice melodic guitar then it's back to the heavy distorted guitars.

Floating keys, some great drumming and a guitar solo, which starts at the background and then turns into a full-fledged cutting-edge one (which does not end up in needless attempts to break the world record of playing as many notes per minute as possible), help to make this a very interesting track indeed.
The guitars and drums are extremely heavy and very much in the foreground during the first part of the song.
There are several returns to quieter themes and the song is concluded by a very beautiful guitar solo, which seems to indicate that there is still a beacon of hope once the quite desperate lyrics have faded away.

 Twigs - Epicure (Endearing)
Twigs' two guitars are often distorted but sometimes take on a different feel, like in track two, when they make a resonant, interweaving melody at the beginning that repeats throughout.
There are also full distorted guitars, gently sung lyrics (most of the time), and an electric xylophone sound bouncing around above the guitars.
The distortion sounds especially nice, probably because the drums and melody are light, as is the xylophone, which evens out their heaviness.

The last section of the song is more mellow as the distorted guitars fade away and sweet melodic and acoustic guitars take precedence, with the bass still remaining fairly noticeable, thundering away.
Disarm is a superb song dominated by acoustic guitars and bells at points, and the choruses are washed with a heart-wrenching dose of strings.
The acoustic guitars give it an atmospheric, spacey feel, and it is a nice enough song, not skippable in any way, just enough to keep the album ticking over until the next track.

Dreamy guitars meander melodically like a stream while the vocals are very direct and full of tunnel like effects that make the song sound spacey and very lo-fi.
The guitars are melodic and groovy complimenting the catchy vocals that lead to that very memorable chorus.

But I'm saying this in a positive manner, I mean, sometimes the guitars are free from distorions, and sometimes the guitars become prisoners of distortion, which is really good, because it still came up as a great song who is waiting to be heard.
Surprisingly, the guitars are not that loud even their equipped with the usual distortions.

Third, although the guitar play by Dieter Cromen is the strength of the album and Robert Kohler's keyboard parts aren't bad either, I'm really not impressed by the drums, probably caused by a combination of lack of professional skills of the drummer and bad choice of rhythms.
Sahlin's keyboards and Andersson's guitars show themselves in wonderful shape (even though I still think that some of the energy from the demo tape and some live performances is lacking in this version).

Slipperman's Recording Distorted Guitars From Hell
Heavily distorted guitar sounds ALREADY ARE COMPRESSED (for lack of a better term) by 'square wave rectification' of the signal in circuit that's being used to produce the 'dirty' sound in the first place.
Every distorted guitar tone is going to have it's own little 'waveshape profile' you gotta figure out to gain control over the sound.

LP Review - Captain by Idlewild   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-15)
Roddy screams the third verse as if he's just been castrated and there's a great bit where the drums slow down a bit and the guitar becomes less distorted over which Roddy melodically sings "a song is a beautiful lie, a song is a beautiful lie and I know that one day if you die".
The simple undistorted guitar, bass and drums of the verses with Roddy's Americanized voice over the top makes way for only a lightly distorted chorus with a brilliant bass run-up and the surprising lack of screaming when the title words are sung.
Again there are soft guitars in the verse with loud guitars in the chorus (the build up to which sees Roddy yelping like a wounded dog).

Then, we distorted guitars pop in, which sound very artificial, but more of that in the technical section.
The drums, baseline, guitars or the lead aren't variated at all, which, of course, is a bad thing.
As already said, the distorted guitars sound artificial, but they always do if you don't want to use huge sampled guitarpack, or just full pre-recorded riffs.

Well, its very melancholy and features an acoustic guitar amongst many other things - laid back and in many ways more of a ballad, with some trade mark bass and keyboard loops, it all builds up beautifully into a fitting end to the album…which may not be their last on the strength of this.
Distortions are crumbled over the driving rock beat as the whole number crunches to as big a crescendo as possible, before breaking into a lull and some frankly crap vocals.
The repetitive guitar riff is pretty good and the idea of focussing on the verse with its 3 note bass line, is a step in the right direction to writing the classic pop song.

A big mistake that I often see with disorted guitars is that the guitar players want to get a ton of low end out of their amps.
Doing that and giving the distorted guitars a little more width (and maybe even a little more aggresion by bumping up the 3-7khz range)should leave the bass more space.
When mixed with distored guitars, in a tight song, the distortion tends to disappear from the bass and act as glue for the rythym section.

At that point a mixture of a mean hammond organ, pounding drums, distorted guitars and rumbling bass is unleashed upon the unsuspecting eardrums.
Heavy guitar and Hammond soon join and lead to another one of those rather catchy choruses, which - I noticed while listening to the rest of the album - seem to be the trademark of Sonic Debris.
After four and a half minutes of soft U2 rock with swaying guitars and floating atmosphere (which is EXTREMELY GOOD), the track ends with almost three minutes of gentle meddling with piano, that, in all honesty, could have been shorter or turned into a separate song.

i was wondering if the triton (extreme probably), has good potential for a nice distorted guitar sound to program.
Nice thing about the SK10 as a source is that you have some sort of "drawbars"/faders that control different octaves of the orgen/string/brass sound, so you can ajust the harmonics in the "guitarsound" to make it more reallistic, even feedback-like effects are possible with these sliders.
And the waveforms (organ - string - brass) all differ in rawness, on a distortion this has alot of effect.
