 CULG - District Line
After the split with the Metropolitan, the District (as it soon became known) saw its main hope as a line to carry commuters from the rich suburbs of the southwest into the central area; subsequently this would be enhanced by extending into the countryside and encouraging new building.
The District was still close to bankruptcy, and in 1901 it was effectively taken over by the Yerkes group, and became the core of the Underground group (eventually to become London Transport).
The line from Hammersmith to Turnham Green was so successful, with the Metropolitan and GWR also running trains along the LSWR, that the latter had to add a second pair of (non-electrified) tracks, opening on 1911-12-03.

Westminster tube station - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
During the station's redevelopment, a vast 39m (127ft) deep void was excavated underneath the old station to house the escalators, lifts and stairs to the deep-level Jubilee Line platforms.
One of the most difficult problems the engineers faced was to construct the station around the Circle and District line tracks, which continued in service throughout its construction.
As with other stations on the Jubilee Line Extension, the Jubilee Line platforms at Westminster have a glass barrier, with its own set of sliding doors, between the platform and the tracks to assist in controlling air circulation (and presumably, extra safety).

In April, David Parker of Lexington spent a night in jail and was charged with criminal trespassing after refusing to leave a scheduled meeting with officials at the Estabrook Elementary School unless they provided parental notice of such lessons and gave him the option of pulling his child out of those classes.

BBC - h2g2 - The Station by Station Guide to the London Underground - District Line: East of South Kensington
The District line is a relatively simple line whilst east of South Kensington station - it simply runs from Upminster in the east to South Kensington without branching or doing anything strange at all.
However, when it reaches Earl's Court, the line starts to act very strangely indeed, and the part of the line west of South Kensington station is therefore given its own section in this guide.
This was due to the building of what is now the Hammersmith and City line section which curves round from the Circle line after Liverpool Street to join the District Line to Upminster.
