The Indian Army has launched fresh operations in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh to neutralise the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom killer squads sent to target non-Assamese communities, official sources said in Guwahati.

Kohima, Dec. 13: Assam Rifles units from Kohima and Dimapur will soon move to Chandel, Churachandpur and Tamenglong districts of Manipur to strengthen the security deployment in the neighbouring state.
The new Assam Rifles battalions were raised in Arunachal Pradesh, but the state does not require them because the Indo-Tibetan Border Police take care of its international border.
An army officer said there were plans to raise special Assam Rifles battalions to guard the international border, but the plan was shelved for the moment.

GUWAHATI: The Assam Government on Wednesday asked all deputy commissioners and district superintendents of police to ensure that no genuine Indian citizens were harassed in their districts in the name of detection and deportation of illegal migrants.
Choudhury said that minorities bodies would explore the possibility of filing an appeal in the apex court or to raise the demand for enactment of new legislation that would be applicable throughout the country.
