Ghana, officially the Republic of Ghana, is a country in West Africa.
It borders the Ivory Coast to the west, Burkina Faso in the north and Togo to the east.
Ghana has 12,630 primary schools, 5,450 junior secondary schools, 503 senior secondary schools, 21 training colleges, 18 technical institutions, two diploma-awarding institutions and five universities serving a population of 18 million; this means that most Ghanaians have relatively easy access to good education.

Decentralisation in Ghana 3.1 Decentralised local government Ghana provides a useful case-study of the potential of decentralisation in realising rights, given that decentralisation is relatively well established and that the principle of popular participation is clearly stated in constitutional and other legal provisions.
In particular the District Assembly is “responsible for the overall development of the district” and required to formulate and implement a medium term development plan (usually five years) and budget, both subject to approval by central government [Article 10 (3)].
Within each district, four communities were chosen on the basis of relative deprivation, with one community selected from the four categories of ‘most developed’, ‘developed’, ‘deprived’ and ‘most deprived’. The two district capitals comprised the ‘most developed’ category, both small towns with a population of less than 10,000.

A community-based cluster survey was conducted in two districts of Ghana, each served by a single district hospital, to determine the prevalence of severe diarrhoea among and treatment preferences for children aged less than five years.
Caretakers of 619 children in Tema, an urban district, and caretakers of 611 children in Akwapim South, a rural district, were interviewed.
During the month preceding the survey, the prevalence of severe diarrhoea in children aged less than five years was similar in the two districts (13.6% urban and 12.9% rural), as was the proportion of mothers who sought care outside the home (69.0% urban and 70.9% rural).

Bono was visiting Ghana during a ten-day tour that took him across Africa, in an effort to bring attention to the need for more help to Africans from developed countries.
The program's agriculture component – the largest component, with an estimated five-year cost of $241 million – aims to enhance the profitability of commercial agriculture among small farmers by improving their business and farming skills, access to credit, land tenure and marketing services.  The program is also expected to improve irrigation and rehabilitate rural roads.

US Ambassador Mary Carlin Yates was quoted as saying that some 130,000 people living in 250 communities would benefit directly or indirectly from this programme, as "labour lost from HIV/AIDS victims and caregivers places a heavy burden on agricultural productivity and food security".
