Uganda, officially the Republic of Uganda, is a country in East Africa, bordered on the east by Kenya, the north by Sudan, on the west by the Democratic Republic of Congo, on the southwest by Rwanda, and on the south by Tanzania.
Uganda became an independent nation in 1962, with Edward Muteesa II, the Kabaka (King) of Buganda as the President and Commander in Chief of the armed forces, and Milton Obote as Prime Minister.
Uganda's 1995 constitution did not originally recognize the official and national status of Swahili as it was controversial and many delegates voted it down, though many people made attempts to introduce it as a second national language.

IMCI implementation began in 1996 in three districts and by 2000, IMCI had been introduced to 55 of the 56 districts in Uganda as a priority of the Ministry of Health.
District surveys were used to monitor IMCI implementation at the health facility and community level and consisted of three health facility surveys, conducted in 2000, 2001 and 2002, and two community monitoring surveys conducted in 2001 and 2002.
Active collaboration was maintained with the Ministry of Health, the Uganda office of UNICEF, WHO and WHO AFRO, as well as USAID Washington, and the USAID mission in Uganda throughout the study period, culminating in a major dissemination meeting held in 2003.

The Katakwi District authorities and NGOs working in the area inform FEWS NET that farmers in other counties of Katakwi District -- outside Kapelebyong and Usuk Counties that are most affected -- have been able to utilize ample and well-distributed rainfall to cultivate crops, including cassava, groundnuts, millet, and sorghum.
Africare-Kabale, another USAID project working with farmers in the southwestern districts, notes that high rainfall intensity and humidity levels, especially in the lowlands, is causing root rot and fungal attacks on beans and Irish potatoes, which may lead to a reduced harvest.

In its bid to encourage the development and competitiveness of the Private Sector to Uganda, PSFU through the BUDS-SSE provides financial assistance for eligible costs associated with training, use of business development services through a cost sharing arrangement.

The Acholi sub-region of Northern Uganda has witnessed profound suffering and displacement as a result of the prolonged 18 year armed conflict between the Government of Uganda (the Uganda Peoples Defense Force (UDPF)) and the rebel group the Lord’s Resistance Army(LRA).
The current poor state of child rights in Northern Uganda is partly a consequence of the ongoing military conflict, as well as a result of the severe lack of human, material and financial resources to effectively and adequately defend the rights of children.
Advocacy and awareness campaigns are carried out to strengthen the laws that protect children’s rights, and public education campaigns are used to sensitize the greater population on the importance of children’s rights.

The pilot project will be fully integrated with IITA's existing macro-information service which collects and processes market information for the use of government and development agencies to assist their work in providing food security, monitoring the economy and improving agricultural performance.
The beans component of the project will be linked to farmers' associations in Rakai and Masaka Districts in South Western Uganda which have been assisted by the Irish Foundation for Co-operative Development (IFCD) to collectively market their surplus bean harvest.
They hope to integrate the Uganda service with others in the region to strengthen the quality of national services and to assist in the improvement of regional and international trade.
