Like Dittany of Crete they were believed to be useful for cordial and cephalic ailments, to help resist poison and combat putrefaction, and to be useful in malignant and pestilential fevers.

I have grown this beautiful "ornamental" for two years now - it is not hardy here (zone 4-5 US) in southern Ontario but I overwintered tow plants in the house last year (and bought a new one this spring).
It has soft and woolly leaves and trails very nicely., The flowers are beautiful blushy pink-chartreuse - and apparently good for tea (I just can't bear to cut them off and try it).
I grow it in pots - the overwintered plants did not flower, but they don't get a lot of sun in my hanging baskets so, this year, I will overwinter only the new plant I bought this spring - and I will try and start some seeds from it.
