		Diva is the Italian word for "goddess", the feminine form of the Italian word divus (= "god").
		In order to qualify as a diva there must be one, or both, of two dominant traits present: a broad and expansive voice (such as Mariah Carey) and/or a thoroughly captivating and commanding stage presence (like Madonna).
		"Diva" may also have a negative connotation, as the word can imply that the star believes the only thing that matters is his/her person, and that everyone involved in a project must cater to his/her every whim.

		Speaking of the ending, I thought it fit perfectly with the theme of the movie, even if it was extremely different from the ending of the first movie (which I haven't seen) and the book (which I have read).
		I enjoyed my time in the theatre watching this movie, and it is pleasant enough, but the inconsistency of the plot is enough to knock the film down a couple of notches.

		Produced by Dario and Claudio Argento, costarring Daria Nicolodi, and with visual effects by Sergio Stivaletti, "Scarlet Diva" is the next best thing to a new Dario Argento film until a new one ("Insomnia"?) comes along.

		But what sets Scarlet Diva apart from that form of cinematic high art, for better or worse, is its aura of (at times embarrassingly) narcissism and self-indulgence.
		Like Holy Smoke, Scarlet Diva is ultimately a "grrrl power" movie, not in the sense of Campion's feminist upturning of gender roles, but in Anna's sheer determination to persevere at all costs.
		Perhaps only in the movies does a pregnant woman drink, smoke, get into a bar fight, fall onto cement steps stomach first, and then have her doctor tell her that both she and her baby are "in perfect health!" But perhaps that is the point, that all we have seen is 'only a movie'.

		With its hilarious story, its beautiful images, its weird characters and its joyous direction, Diva could open the door to the cinema of the rest of the world for those whose Top 10 list consist only of films as Pulp Fiction, Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, The Usual Suspects or The Godfather.
