Newfolk NDiF: Cultural Diversity, Alternative medicine, & Folk Medicine
Diversity in healing, as in other areas of culture, from art to politics to religion to science, can be either good or bad in the particular instance: there is bad politics and there is bad science, and the world is not better for that.
However, the wor ld is better for the circumstances that make bad politics and bad science, bad art or bad religion possible--free speech, tolerance, the right to be wrong--all the things that John Stuart Mill cited in his classic argument for the value of free spe ech.
In an essay entitled "Culture and Clinical Care" in JAMA (March 2, 1994), pediatrician Lee Pachter discussed the clinical importance of cultural differences in beliefs about health and disease, using the folk medical beliefs of Latinos to illustrate the point.

Open Source and Blogging both approach the same point, the same goal: diversity, whether diversity of software usage or diversity of viewpoints.
It seems like the phrase "open source" is being confused with the similar, but different, "free to use", "free speech" or "freedom of expression." We hear about open source journalism, open source biology, open source research and even open source beer.

OUP: Nationalism and Hybridity in Mongolia: Bulag
He calls into question the idea of Mongolia as a homogeneous place and people, and urges that unity should be sought through acknowledgement of diversity.
Bulag draws on an abundance of illuminating research findings to argue that Mongols are facing a choice between a purist, racialized nationalism, inherited from Soviet discourses of nationalism, and a more open, adaptive nationalism which accepts diversity, hybridity, and multiculturalism.
This Halh-centrism excites and exploits fears that Mongolia will be swallowed by China; it stands in opposition to pan-Mongolism, the view that links between Mongols of all kinds should be strengthened.

Diversity - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Diversity" is a confusing term in American politics since no single ethnic group can claim majority status in the United States.
Business diversity consultants and diversity trainers often treat the social consequences of diversity as secondary; their primary focus is to enable the company to function in a heterogeneous or global economy.
The "business case for diversity", as it is often phrased, is that in a global and diverse marketplace, a company whose makeup mirrors the makeup of the marketplace it serves is better equipped to thrive in that marketplace than a company whose makeup is homogeneous.

Thomas Sowell Speech Cultural Diversity: A World View
Diversity is invoked in discussions of everything from employment policy to curriculum reform and from entertainment to politics.
Cultural diversity, viewed internationally and historically, is not a static picture of differentness but a dynamic picture of competition in which what serves human purposes more effectively survives while what does not tends to decline or disappear.
This approach raises questions as to what the purpose of culture is. If what is important about cultures is that they are emotionally symbolic, and if differentness is cherished for the sake of differentness, then this particular version of cultural "diversity" might make some sense.

Voluntarism, the formation of political associations, can be divorced from identity politics.

Democrats say they are more unified than ever in their determination to beat President Bush, but there have been desertions in the party's ranks by antiwar activists who back independent candidate Ralph Nader and grumblings from blacks and Hispanics who say Sen. John Kerry has taken them for granted.
It still isn't clear what personnel changes Kerry advisers have made in response to her criticisms, but her sharply worded remarks raised questions about party unity just as the senator was putting together his national campaign organization.

Prophetic politics finds its center in fundamental "moral issues" such as children, diversity, family, community, citizenship, and ethics (others could be added such as nonviolence, tolerance, fairness, etc.) and tries to construct national directions to which many people across the political spectrum could agree.
Prophetic politics wouldn’t assign all the answers to the government, the market, or the churches and charities; but rather patiently and creatively forge new civic partnerships where everyone does their share and everybody does what they do best.
Perhaps most important, prophetic politics won’t be led just by elected officials, lawyers, and their financial backers.
