Inspiration - LoveToKnow 1911   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-31)
We must estimate the worth of inspiration by the higher and not the lower stages, by the vision of an Isaiah or the consecration of a Paul; but at the same time we must be prepared to recognize its lowly beginnings.
In dealing with the inspiration of the Bible, to which the use of the term has in the Christian Church been largely restricted, it is important to remember that inspiration is primarily personal; and that it assumes varied forms and allows varying degrees.
Inspiration is first of all ascribed to persons to account for abnormal states, or exceptional powers and gifts; in this doctrine it is transferred to writings, and its effects in securing for these inerrancy, authority, andc., are discussed with little regard for the psychic state of the writers.

Biblical inspiration - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Biblical inspiration is the doctrine in Christian theology concerned with the divine origin of the Bible and what the Bible teaches about itself.
The proof that a doctrine of divine inspiration is taught by the Bible itself is ample.
In addition, theological conservatives sometimes argue that Biblical inspiration can be corroborated by examining the weight of the Bible's moral teaching and its prophecies about the future and their fulfillment.

 Divine Inspiration: Part One
Inspiration and prophecy are not mere psychological processes in which the human imagination constitutes the main factor.
A low level of Divine Inspiration was a bat kol, literally the "daughter of a voice" [or understood as an "echo"].
A major source of prophetic inspiration was the Ark of the Covenant, containing the two tablets of the original Torah, which stood in the Holy of Holies in the Temple.

CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Inspiration of the Bible
Inspiration can be considered in God, who produces it; in man, who is its object; and in the text, which is its term.
An inspiration which is not accompanied by a revelation, which is adapted to the normal play of the faculties of the human soul, which can determine the will of the inspired writer by motives of a human order, does not necessarily suppose that he who is its object is himself conscious of it.
To establish the inspiration and Divine authority of the Bible the early Reformers had substituted for the teaching of the Church internal criteria, notably the interior testimony of the Holy Spirit and the spiritual efficacy of the text.

 Inspiration
Although advocating the divine origin of the prophecies, he also relegated the first-person point of view from which the authors spoke to be something of a phenomenalistic sort that is not meant to be taken literally.
The inspiration behind the Old Testament Scriptures had to occur in such a way that the very words employed by the authors were either determined, desired, or accepted by God.
Inspiration was of such a nature that the authors were kept from error.

The Observer | Review | Divine inspiration
Inspiration, in other words, is a kind of God-term; it refers to something we think of as essential but that we can't, or may not want to, understand.
There are, of course, superstitions around inspiration, and probably all artists have their own; but there are no dogmas about inspiration except that it is required for work of the highest value.
It would be possible, for example, to imagine a society that thought the whole notion of inspiration was the invention of irresponsible, decadent people who simply needed to disown what they did, people who refused to take the consequences of their actions; people who were always saying, one way or another, 'it wasn't really me'.

 DIVINE INSPIRATION
The opponents of plenary inspiration are apt to dismiss it with ridicule as involving the assumption that the writers were mechanically controlled and made the recipients of a dictated message.
Acknowledge that this also is Divine, equally inspired by the Holy Spirit throughout, and that it is nowhere destitute of the attribute of inspiration, that it is everywhere faultless and infallible, from the alpha to the omega of it.
"Inspiration is that divine influence which, accompanying the sacred writers equally in all they wrote, secured the infallible truth of their writings in every part, both in idea and in expression, and determined the selection and distribution of their material according to the divine purpose.

"Divine Inspiration" is the title that Rocio has chosen for her first individual Exposition, a very well chosen title, in my opinion, because it's not possible to study her work only as art as its difficult technique and structure cannot be separated from its spiritual content.
The metal has been inspiration base for the artist Rocio Heredia who has transformed metal fragments in more than 30 pieces of art in which, with relieves, textures and ornaments deeply detailed, from Virgins, saints and symbols representing Jewish and catholic religions.
Her inspiration is not only based on metal beauty but in religious motives that have driven her to reflect it in a series of icons where saints, virgins and angels come up.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Actual Grace
It is called a "help of God for salutary acts", because, on the one hand, it differs from permanent sanctifying grace, in that it consists only in a passing influence of God on the soul, and, on the other, it is destined only for actions which have a necessary relation to man's eternal salvation.
In the ordinary course of things the Divine inspiration of joy in virtue and aversion from sin will, no doubt, methodically lead to the free performance of salutary acts; but the moral influence of grace can effect the temporary control of freedom in the sinner.
It is true that in the polemical writings of some Fathers of the Church against the Pelagians and Semipelagians we read the proposition: "The grace of God is not granted to all." But a closer examination of the passages immediately reveals the fact that they speak of efficacious, not of sufficient, grace.

 Divine inspiration of the Scriptures
The goal of this article is to explain the Church’s teaching about the divine inspiration of the Sacred Scripture, and propose the arguments, which support this teaching.
Divine and human natures sojourned in Christ in an organic union, and in the same manner for the communication of Divine Revelation everything is inspired by God, and free operation of a man is evinced at the same time."
Therefore the divine inspiration of the Scriptures does not by any means come into a contradiction with genuine human thoughts and senses, inaccuracies and discrepancies, which may be found in them.

 How Does Divine Inspiration Operate
When we use the term “inspiration,” Seventh-day Adventists understand that God did not generally dictate the exact words to his messengers, but He did guide their thoughts.
Inspiration acts not on the man’s words or his expressions but on the man himself, who, under the influence of the Holy Ghost, is imbued with thoughts.
“Through the inspiration of His Spirit the Lord gave His apostles truth, to be expressed according to the development of their minds by the Holy Spirit.

Evidences of the divine inspiration of the Scriptures
Inspiration is God's superintending of human authors so that, using their own individual personalities, they composed and recorded without error in the words of the original autographs his revelation to man. With regards to the inspiration of the Bible, the church uses these two terms to describe its belief in the nature of inspiration.
Now as soon as we admit its inspiration (for devils would not write a book that seals their condemnation, angels would not lie; and mere men would not and cannot be so sincere about their own shortcomings which they recorded) then we are also recognising its supreme authority.

The Jews say that their Word of God was given by God to Moses face to face; the Christians say, that their Word of God came by divine inspiration; and the Turks say, that their Word of God (the Koran) was brought by an angel from heaven.
Early Deism was a logical outgrowth of the great advances in astronomy, physics, and chemistry that had been made by Bacon, Copernicus, Galileo, etc. It was a small leap from rational study of nature to the application of the same techniques in religion.
