| | DNR Releases 2003 Mid-Winter Waterfowl Survey Results |
 | | Diving duck estimates declined from 310,000 in 2002 to 169,900 in 2003. |
 | | The drop in diving duck estimates was attributed to significant decreases in ruddy ducks (42,700 this winter compared to 79,200 in 2002) and scaup (66,600 in 2003 compared to the record 163,400 counted in last winter). |
 | | Other diving duck species’ estimates in 2002 were lower compared to 2002, including redheads (5,100), buffleheads (13,100), ring-necked ducks (300) and American goldeneyes (2,100). |
