The LABRADOR part of the province may have received its name from the Portuguese designation, "Terra del Lavradors." CAPE SPEAR, near ST JOHN'S, is the easternmost point of the province and thus, excepting Greenland, of North America.
Labrador occupies the easternmost section of the Canadian SHIELD and comprises mostly tough, ancient Precambrian igneous and metamorphic rocks.
Newfoundlanders are increasingly appreciative of their unique heritage, as shown by the many successful folk festivals and heritage societies.

Newfoundland, one of the four Atlantic provinces of Canada, consisting of the island of Newfoundland and, on the mainland, a coastal portion of the Labrador region.
The Labrador portion (296,860 sq km/114,618 sq mi) is separated from the island by the Strait of Belle Isle; it is bounded on the east by the Atlantic Ocean and on the south and west by Québec Province.
Labrador became a British possession in 1763 under the terms of the Treaty of Paris, but was transferred to Québec in 1774.

The first was the determination of Newfoundland to retain control of Labrador coastal waters, as an abundant harvest for the annual voyages of fishermen from the Island.
Central Labrador - the district of Naskaupi - may be taken as comprising the shores of Hamilton Inlet and its drainage basin, historically the hunting and trapping territory of the Innu and the metis "settlers".
Following Newfoundland's confederation with Canada in 1949, Labrador had its own representation in the House of Assembly although the successful candidates until the 1960s were primarily residents from the Island part of the new province, a matter that many Labradorians still feel strongly about.

Therefore, for the most part, women’s recorded involvement began in the second half of the 20th century in Newfoundland and Labrador and it is with this period from 1960 until the present that I deal with.
As provincial archaeologist in the mid-1980s, she co-edited the publication series "Archaeology in Newfoundland and Labrador" during the 7 years it was printed (Thomson and Sproull-Thomson 1980; 1981; 1982; 1983; 1984; 1985; 1986).
Secondly, women have and continue to be role models for other women, both in academia and in the field; and thirdly, women's perspectives in archaeology in Newfoundland and in archaeology general were not sufficiently recorded in the past and therefore it is important to illustrate their contributions now.

Towns and cities in France in the 1600s had no sewer systems and so the filth and stench of animal and human wastes and consequent threat of disease was always around.
Homes of those days had no windows and if the building ideas that were used in the old country were used, most homes only had openings that were covered with a paper that was oiled to be translucent and could be shuttered in the winter.
No official record is yet found of their birth dates but it appears that they were all born in Ste-Antoine de Tilly.

It is quite evident from Newfoundland and Labrador’s result at national tournaments in 2007 that wrestling is one of the most successful sports right now in the province.
Reichel had no chance of winning gold or silver after the loss and with his back against the wall, had a chance to compete for a bronze medal if he won his next match, but would be eliminated if he lost.
Newfoundland and Labrador sent four wrestlers to the nationals and all four came home with medals.

In Newfoundland and Labrador, the opportunity to be considered for the Youth Hunting/Fishing Exchange Program is open to all residents between the ages of 12 and 17 who complete a Firearm Safety/Hunter Education Course between July 2001 and June 2002.
In Labrador, boundaries and season dates remain consistent with those announced in a news release by the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation on Oct. 3, 2001.
Revisions were made at that time which included the creation of the Labrador North and Labrador South Zone and adjustments to trapping season dates for each of these new zones.
