		By a margin nearly as surprising as it was resounding - 296-106 - NCAA Division III institutions adopted an amendment that will allow RPI and seven other Division III schools that play up to the Division I level in one sport to continue offering athletic scholarships.
		Division III teams are prohibited from offering financial aid to athletes under the Division III Philosophy adopted when the NCAA divided intercollegiate competition into three divisions in 1983.
		Proposal 65 of the Division III reform package would have removed that waiver, so RPI, Clarkson, St. Lawrence, Colorado College, Hartwick and other affected schools took counter-measure action by putting forth Proposal 65-I. That provision, to which Jackson was a key contributor, affirms Proposal 65 but makes the waiver permanent for those exempted schools.
