 Battle of Balaclava, 25 October 1854
The Battle of Balaclava was fought on the 25 October 1854, and was the second major engagement of the Crimean War.
Kadikoi was just north of Balaclava and just to the north of this was the Plain of Balaclava running west to east and split by the Woronzov Heights in to the North and South Valleys.
For all the mistakes that were made, Balaclava remained in Allied hands, and so Raglan could claim victory, but few in Britain saw it that way, as for many, the Charge was the battle, and that was a disaster.

The councillors cited that the current street light installation programme across the parish needs to be arranged to meet the needs of the residents.
People's National Party Councillor for the Myersville Division, Winston Sinclair, told the monthly meeting of the council, held at the council's chamber in Black River, that 50 per cent of the street lights that were installed in his division are not working.
PNP Councillor for the Balaclava division, Rodney Barnes, said that seven of the 23 street lights that were installed in his division have not been working for more than two months and nothing has been done about the matter.

He told the meeting that most of the districts in the area were still in darkness, due to the non-installation of street lights.

In November 1942 G Battery and the rest of 5th RHA joined 7th Armoured Division, with which it was to serve for the rest of the war and on 7th May 1942 ‘G’ Battery neared Tunis and the war in Africa was over.
During the 2nd World War the battery served with the Division in all the opening battles and was also part of the Tobruk Garrison during the first part of the siege, until 21st September 1941 when it and J Battery were evacuated by sea to rejoin 3 RHA.
With the Division it returned to the UK in 1944 and took part in Operation Overlord in 1944, and the rest of the war on Northern Europe, culminating with the Victory Parade in Berlin in 1945.

The British troops near the action were the 2nd Division (3,000 men) encamped on the ridge, Codrington's brigade of the Light Division (1,400 men) on the slopes west of the Careenage Ravine, and the Guards Brigade of 1,350 men about a quarter mile in the rear of the 2nd Division.
Most of the division was first used to patch up weaker parts of the line.
