Lyons is a rural division and is the largest division in Tasmania covering most of the State from the west to the east coasts and from Latrobe and Beaconsfield townships in the north to New Norfolk and the Tasman Peninsula region in the south.
Denison extends from Austins Ferry in the north to Taroona in the south, from Hobart in the east to Collinsvale in the west.
Denison is an inner metropolitan division centred in the greater Hobart region.

The Kingston area is situated 10 kms via the Southern Outlet from Hobart, capital of the Australian island state of Tasmania.
Kingston is unique in Tasmania in having a large Dutch community (resulting from post-war migration) which maintains traditional festivals including the Tulip Festival held at the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens.
Kingston is the commercial, retail and administrative centre for Kingborough, the other principal towns being Taroona, Blackman's Bay, Margate, Snug, Kettering, Woodbridge and Middleton.

Tasmania is experiencing moderate to low levels of growth with the existing Divisions of Braddon (lowest) and Lyons (highest) appearing at the opposite extremes of the growth ranges.
The other three existing Divisions in the State (Bass, Denison and Franklin) comfortably conform with all the Section 66(3)(a) and (b) criteria and the Redistribution Committee was persuaded that there was no necessity to make significant changes to their existing boundaries.
A quota is used to determine the number of Divisions to which each State and Territory is entitled.

Fysh was elected to the Australian House of Representatives in 1901 as a member for Tasmania, and in 1903 as member for the Division of Denison.
Fysh ascended to Premier and Chief Secretary of Tasmania in 1877, serving initially until 1878 and returning to the positions in1887 and serving to 1892.
A Protectionist, he was a member of the Tasmanian Legislative Council from 1866-69, 1870-73, 1884-90, and of the Tasmanian House of Assembly 1873-78 and 1894-99.

 Australian Antarctic Division - Mawson's Huts Commonwealth Bay
Australian Douglas Mawson led the expedition and established its main base at Commonwealth Bay, 2473 km south of Tasmania, in one of the world's windiest places.
Two huts from the original AAE survive today on a small harbour indenting Commonwealth Bay's Cape Denison: the main living hut and the magnetograph house.
