| | Western Division : NSW Department of Natural Resources |
 | | DNR plays a vital role in the life of the Western Division, working cooperatively with the community in (i) administering leases, other Crown Lands, and the Unincorporated Area, (ii) managing water, and (iii) protecting and improving the Division's soils and native vegetation. |
 | | The Division is sparsely populated, with fewer than 2000 primary producer enterprises (virtually all family businesses) and only the mining communities of Broken Hill, Lightning Ridge and Cobar having urban populations greater than 3,000 people. |
 | | Native vegetation in the region, 95 per cent of which remains unmodified except for grazing and control of wild fires, is typical of semi–arid rangeland environments. |
