Boxing News : McDonnell : Ottke V. Reid: Can Reid Catch the Phantom?
Reid is one of those fighters who blows hot and cold, the highlight of his career was his WBC title-winning effort against toughman Vincenzo Nardiello, but the counterpoint to this are his losing efforts against the likes of Thulane Malinga and Silvio Branco, both of whom outboxed him.
Reid’s natural style is that of a hard-hitting counterpuncher, he likes to exploit openings and then explode big shots on his opponent.
Reid at the top of his form would have a far better chance, but his lack of top-class opponents, fitness and sharpness, as seen in his last outing, could hurt him here.

Reid Meets Magee At The Crossroads
Reid cracks the top 10 in the IBF ratings, whilst Magee is rated in the top 10 by the WBA and WBC, and the winner of this contest is certain to find themselves in the rankings of three of the major bodies.
Yes, Reid has always been capable of turning in a lacklustre performance, but at the age of 33, and with the terrible disappointment of the Calzaghe and now the Ottke title challenges, I don’t believe that Reid is going to allow this chance to slip by without giving it his maximum effort.
Reid knows that at 33 he isn’t going to get too many more chances, and that a win over Magee will not only give him a minor IBO title, but a chance to put his name up in the elite, with a view to taking on the current major belt holders.
