The median income for a household in the county is $34,201, and the median income for a family is $41,122.

In 1984 the Dixon school closed and students are bussed to either Laurel or Allen.
Dixon also had a "bachelors club" which met and "monitored" the dances, roller skating rinks, etc. The members included Rollen Dunn, Sterling Borg, Don and Lowell Sanders, Darrell Erwin, Bill Garvin, Bob Murray, and John Young.
Today the citizens of Dixon, with a population of about 120, enjoy the less-hurried life of small-town living, as well as the advantages of a good central water and sewer system, asphalt streets, and once-a-week garbage collection.

In 1830, John Dixon, postmaster, moved to the site with his family to operate the ferry which had prospered because of its location on the trail between the Galena lead mines and Peoria.
John Dixon --'Father Dixon' to the settlers and 'Nachusa' (white haired) to the Indians -- was a community leader until his death on July 8, 1876.
Dixon became the county seat in 1839 and is today a thriving community.

Knox County was apportioned that part between Cumberland Gap and the Sixty-one Mile Tree, and was to receive one-half of the toll, the remainder to be divided between Lincoln and Madison Counties in proportion to their respective road mileage.

In 1845 with Dixon's population at just 400 people, an act was passed in the State Legislature for the incorporation of the Dixon Dam and Bridge Company.
Throughout the early history of Dixon and the settling of the Rock River Valley the waterway had played a significant role in the development of the area.
The Dixon Pure Ice Company employed some 50 to 75 men in the winter of 1905, to fill the icehouses with 15 thousand tons and the company had contracts calling for several hundred, train car loads to be shipped during the winter.

Dixon told the commissioners that a lack of winter precipitation and a dry spring have been tough on local farmers and ranchers.
Dixon said the problem is three-fold: a lack of growing-season precipitation, range land in poor condition and a stock water problem.

In other drug related news, I realized this week that we have not been filing the EPIC forms after we locate a meth lab, and as a result, our meth stats for the year are down considerably.
I know that here in Pulaski County we are not picking up the intelligence info on active labs at the same rate we did last year.
