		I really enjoy all the material from this era on the double-disc compilation I have, and I assume that Mental Notes is definitely the place to start if you want to examine their early art-rock period.
		Dizrythmia was a transitional album for New Zealand's most influential pop-group, shifting away from Roxy Music and Genesis inspired art-rock to more conventional song-driven pop-rock.
		I don't think that Split Enz were necessarily a consistent album band, and it's their new wave singles that they're best known for, but Dizrythmia is easily one of their most cohesive statements and is well worth tracking down.

		Superior in all ways to the average "Living Enz" from about 1985, Extravagenza is the Enz at their best, rejuvinated, from 1993, when they had had some time apart, had been doing other things and were no longer worried about the band's demise.
		Though Phil Judd has left by this stage, his influence can still be heard, yet Dizrythmia is as much the Enz without him in many ways, and is a transitional album also in many ways.
		Dizrythmia never sounds dated; its sounds are extrordinary and sophisticated and timeless in a way that "Dark Side of the Moon" really would hope to be, but isn't.

		Dizrythmia was a transitional album for Split Enz, with the group shifting away from Roxy Music style art-rock (Phil Manzanera produced their previous album), to more conventional song-driven pop-rock.
		Split Enz were also undergoing a number of line up changes, most notably Neil Finn replacing founder Phil Judd as a guitarist the tender age of 18.
		While Dizrythmia is not as inspired or as developed as later Finn projects such as Split Enz's Time and Tide and Crowded House's Together Alone, it's still a satisfying work in its own right.

		For their band's next album they chose to record at London's prestigious Air Studios with producer (and former Beatles engineer) Geoff Emerick.
		Dizrythmia (a title taken from the medical term for jet-lag, circadia disrhythmia, meaning 'upset body rhythm') made no appreciable impact in the UK, but was was very successful in Australasia, and gave them their first simultaneous hits on the Australian and New Zealand singles and album charts.
		They returned to Australia in August, coinciding with the release of the album, and began a 28-date tour Australasian tour in October/November.
