The Republic of Djibouti (Arabic: : جيبوتي, Ǧībūtī) is a country in eastern Africa, located in the Horn of Africa.
Djibouti is bordered by Eritrea in the north, Ethiopia in the west and south, and Somalia in the southeast.
Djibouti's second president, Guelleh was first elected to ofice in 1999, taking over from his uncle, Hassan Gouled Aptidon, who had ruled the country since its independence from France in 1977.

Turns out that was a big mistake: Djibouti is strategically located at the entrance to the Gulf of Aden, the all-important sea route for oil tankers plowing through the choppy waters transporting its cargo to destinations around the world.
In fact, someone once said Djibouti is such a laid-back place that the founding fathers decided not to complicate things and named the capital after the country.
