The Fang proper are inland on the border with Equatorial Guinea and near Djoum.
They are further broken down into the Bulu proper, who inhabit the rich cocoa producing area from Kribi to Ebolowa and east through Sangmélima and Djoum.
These hunter-gatherers roam the forests of the region, particularly the area at the center and southeast of the province from Ebolowa to Ambam and Djoum with the Lala on the coast near Lolodorf, Bipindi, and Kribi.

Pour les populations Baka de l’arrondissement de Djoum, le Libandi vise trois objectifs majeurs : l’initiation des jeunes à Edjengui.

In the Southern region of Cameroon villager's livelihoods have been destroyed, due to illegal exploitation of the tropical forest.In May 1999 Rougier's subsidiary SFID entered the agricultural plantations in the villages of Djoum, without having a valid licence to exploit forestry reserves, and without the knowledge and consent of the villagers.
After the negative court decision in February 2004, the plaintiffs have consequently lodged an appeal to the Supreme Court, in the hope of annulment of the judgment of the Appeal Court.
While waiting for the court decision, there is an ongoing land dispute between the company and the communities in Djoum, for land supposedly borrowed by the communities to SFID, and registered in the company's name(7).

According to the law, the amount has to be paid by the companies before they start exploitation; 50 percent go to the state, 40 percent to the respective local council, and 10 percent to the local communities that are affected by the forest exploitation.
That means in the case of Djoum, the communities can claim 16.8 million Francs cfa.
The persons in charge of the companies declared that they would not „let these people get away with that" and that their action was unacceptable.

The goal of the project is emancipation of the Baka Pygmies in their traditional environment — camps in their forest.
The project is active in the regions of Djoum and Kribi in the South Province of Cameroon.
The Baka are traditionally semi-nomadic hunter-gatherers that live in the tropical rainforest of south-eastern and southern Cameroon.

 Manuels sans frontières : éditions humanitaires de manuels scolaires
L'association Mienda Ya Endengue Djoum, basée à Lons (64), regroupe des femmes (mienda, littéralement "le pilier de la maison") qui s'investissent dans le développement du village d'Endengue, situé dans la région de Djoum, au Sud du Cameroun.
Marie Antoinette et Samuel Ebene Ebene ont profité d'un voyage pour acheminer une trentaine d'exemplaires de chacun des manuels sans frontières de français, ainsi qu'une vingtaine de manuels du commerce inutilisés.
Ces ouvrages seront remis aux enseignants d'une trentaine d'écoles réparties le long les 3 axes qui convergent à Djoum, ainsi que du SETIF de Djoum.

Forests Monitor calls upon the Government of Cameroon
Forests Monitor has requested that the government of Cameroon undertake an official mission to the Djoum area of South Province, Cameroon to investigate evidence of a potentially large-scale illegal logging operation uncovered in a recent Forests Monitor field trip to the area.
Researchers discovered a track leading straight from a sawmill into the heart of an unallocated forest management unit (UFA 09-007), suggesting that the mill could have a clandestine operation to process illegally felled logs.
