	Elections declared invalid in four districts (04/19/98)
		Election results were voided by the CEC in districts in the Donetsk and Cherkasy regions and by local courts in the Kherson and Dnipropetrovsk regions on April 13, because violations of election law were deemed to be significant enough to have influenced results.
		In addition, a special investigative commission of the CEC is continuing its investigation of the election results of party races in the parliamentary elections in the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, the political base of Pavlo Lazarenko, chairman of the oblast regional council and leader of the Hromada Party.
		The Odesa Oblast chairman, who is an appointee of President Kuchma, has filed a claim in the Kirovohrad Oblast court as well.

	The Great Famine-Genocide in Soviet Ukraine (Holodomor)
		The first official monument of its kind in Dnipropetrovsk oblast, it will be built on the ninth kilometer of the Dnipropetrovsk-Zaporizhzhia highway - on the site where mass burials of people killed on orders from Stalin were discovered in the 1970s during earthworks.
		According to the author's concept, the monument commemorating the victims of the Holodomor and political reprisals to be built near a busy motorway should be seen from afar by all those heading for Dnipropetrovsk.
		It is worth noting that the director of the group of architects that designed the monument to the victims of the Holodomor and political reprisals, Harnyk Khachatrian, is a native of Armenia, whose people also repeatedly faced mass terror and genocide.

	Ukraine Trip Report: Market Reforms Continue
		Spring precipitation was below normal in western and central Ukraine, and weather was excessively dry in parts of eastern and southern Ukraine.
		Late-May and early-June precipitation was beneficial for both winter and spring grains, but the effect of nearly two months of below-normal precipitation is indicated in recent Landsat satellite imagery from Dnipropetrovsk oblast (1, 2, 3) and Odesa oblast (4, 5, 6) and in imagery-derived vegetation indices.
		The director of a grain and livestock operation in Kharkiv oblast explained that, after weighing the benefits and disadvantages of custom combining, he decided to fix his outdated combines as best he could and harvest the crop himself.
