  DOD Model
The Department of Defense (DOD), a division of the United States government, developed a model that would be used as the developing basis for their own protocol suite known as the Internet protocol suite.
This model has four layers compared to the seven layers of the OSI model.
Since there is a relationship between the layers of each of the models, some of the developed protocols in the Internet suite, at a particular layer, functions much like the equivalent layers of the OSI model.

DOD's and MOD's conclusions about troops' exposure to CW agents, based on DOD and CIA plume modeling, cannot be adequately supported.
The modeling assumptions as to source term data--quantity and purity of the agent--were inaccurate because they were uncertain, incomplete, and nonvalidated.
DOD's and VA's conclusions about no association between exposure to CW agents and rates of hospitalization and mortality, based on two epidemiological studies conducted and funded by DOD and VA, also cannot be adequately supported because of study weaknesses.

Gulf War Illnesses: DOD's Conclusions about U.S. Troops' Exposure Cannot Be Adequately Supported   (Site not responding. Last check: )
DOD and VA based their conclusions on two epidemiological studies they funded, one conducted by DOD researchers, the other by VA researchers.4 In both of these studies, flawed criteria were used to determine the troops' exposure.
Modeling the Environmental and Health Effects of Fallout from CW Agents According to the CIA, modeling is the art and science of using interconnected mathematical equations to predict the activities of an actual event.
DOD and VA Used Flawed Criteria for Determining Troops' Exposure In the two epidemiological studies, DOD and VA researchers used DOD's 1997 plume model for determining which troops were under the path of the plume-that is, were exposed-and which troops were not-that is, were not exposed.

 DOD/OSAGWI·CLA ATTEMPTS TO RECONSTRUCT KHAMISIYAH
Once DOD and CIA acknowledged the likelihood that chemical agents were present in some Iraqi weapons destroyed by U.S. forces, questions remained as to whether American personnel were actually exposed to any agent that might have been released during that destruction.
In the published analysis, the results from all five plume models were overlapped and the outermost perimeter of the resulting "super plume" was used to mark the maximum possible boundary of chemical exposure potential.
Moreover, although the July 1997 DOD-CIA model was the basis for notifying almost 100,000 veterans of a potential exposure, on-going modeling has already caused the DOD and the CIA to redraw the original model's boundaries and makes even that theory subject to change in the future.

The DoD model (DoD, Department of Defense) is a layered abstract description for communications and computer network protocol design.
It was created in the 1970s by DARPA for use in developing the Internet's protocols, and the structure of the Internet is still closely reflected by the DoD model.
Layer 4 - Process Layer or Application Layer - This is where the "higher level" protocols such as SMTP, FTP, SSH, HTTP, etc. operate.

The DoD model (DoD, Department of Defense), sometimes called the ARPANET reference model or the Internet reference model, is a layered abstract description for communications and computer network protocol design.
No document officially specifies the model; different names are given to the layers by different documents, and different numbers of layers are shown by different documents.
The five-layer version of the model splits Layer 1 into a Physical layer and a Network Access layer, corresponding to the physical layer and data link layer of the OSI model.

The model is of interest to NNSA personnel with widely different responsibilities, including analysts who develop policies, facility managers who are concerned with building maintenance schedules, budget experts who track staffing projections, and transportation managers who are charged with delivering dismantled warhead components to the appropriate sites on schedule.
However, the model would also show increased spending for demolition and decontamination because DOE policy states that one square foot of old facilities must be removed for every square foot of new construction.
The model’s governing equations, similar to those called Lotka–Volterra equations, were originally developed to describe the dynamics of biological populations in which two species, such as predator and prey, interact.

DOD's two-phased process to develop its fiscal year 2004 equipment reconstitution cost estimates contained weaknesses that produced errors, which may result in misstatements of future-year reconstitution cost requirements.
The model DOD used to estimate costs in the first phase of the process generated unreliable estimates due to two main reasons.
DOD has not accurately tracked and reported its equipment reconstitution cost because the services are unable to segregate equipment reconstitution from other maintenance requirements as required.

The model is able to facilitate communication because it uses standardized data that consists of supports operated by providing a single and a common structure to facilitate reporting, coordination, command, and control.
DoD databases are constructed to facilitate a seamless exchange of data among a variety of unrelated users; thus, they are structured to support interoperability.
The model will be implemented in the soon-to-be-fielded UXM physical model, and it will serve throughout the DoD as the basis for exchanging information about unexploded ordnances of all kinds.
