A town of more than 2500 inhabitants, Dobrzyn is located in rural central Poland in a region of orchards and cereal and root crops.
In the 14th century Dobrzyn was known as the base of a castellan.
So, whereas it is thereby proved, the first Polish woman student came from Dobrzyn, studied in Cracow between 1407 and 1409, and then became a nun in one of the convents there.

I was born in Dobrzyn (currently called Golub Dobrzyn) on the Drweca, Poland.
I was a witness to massacres that happened in Dobrzyn from Rosh Hashana (14 September 1939) to the 11 November 1939 when we were finally forcefully expelled from our town.
After our expulsion from Dobrzyn on the 11th of November we lived in the Plock Ghetto unitl 1941 when Jews were again forcefully evacuated to Dzialdowo (Soldau).

Initially there were 2 cities: Golub located north of the Drwęca in the Chełmno Land and Dobrzyn located south of the Drwęca in the Land of Dobrzyn.
The two cities were united May 5, 1951.
Since the second half of 17th century Dobrzyn existed as a settlement on the left bank of the Drwęca.

Whilst our roots in Dobrzyn go back for many many generations, the part that I am recording in this Dobrzyn hyperlink section is only the brief period from the outbreak of war 1 September 1939 until the 11 November 1939 when the remainder of the Jewish population was forcefully expelled from there.
In those 10 weeks of the beginning of the war, the killings, the gruesome and brutal atrocities that took place, the cruelty that the Germans were capable of inflicting, in such a short period of time, is probably unbelievable for people that have not been through it.
In Dobrzyn searches were carried out and the best of what appealed to the Germans was taken away.

In 1684 Zygmunt Dzialynski named the settlement Przedmiescie Golubskie and in 1789 the city of Dobrzyn and its environs, including the Chodzynski estates, was annexed in 1793, after the Second Partition of Poland, and incorporated in to the Kingdom of Prussia.
However, in 1815 Dobrzyn was included in to the Kingdom of Poland.
Every able bodied man of fighting age was ordered to leave their homes, head west towards the front and assemble at the garrison town of Grudziadz, where Polish forces were re-grouping in order to deliver a counter attack.

Since then the Family moved out to Torun (ancestors of Rafał and Jan), Sierpc (ancestors of Tadeusz and Virginia Dejewski Slawson) and to Jaworzno in Silesia.
My Grandfather Teodor says that someone from the Jaworzno branch traced out the family line to Dobrzyn but can't remember who it really was.
Although Łęgowo is located a little bit farther to the North but in my opinion it's very likely that the Dejewskis living in those four places were somehow related.
