Dobsonville has become the eighteenth community in Gauteng to launch a Multi-Purpose Community Centre (MPCC).
It is located within Dobsonville Civic Centre managed by the City of Johannesburg Region 6 as the People Centre and is easily accessible to nearby communities.
Monsukutu assured the community of Dobsonville that this was not the end of government's efforts in bringing its services closer to the people "but it is only the beginning".

THE crowd started gathering at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto long before the officials from the City of Johannesburg arrived, singing and chanting slogans in anticipation of being able to have their say to their mayor.
The public meeting on Wednesday night was one of many the Executive Mayor of Johannesburg, Amos Masondo, hosts throughout the year in an effort to keep in touch with his constituents.

On 27 September 2006, following a tip-off from the community, Dobsonville police recovered 4 x R4 rifle and 24 x R5 rifle rounds of ammunition in an open veld next to the boundary fences of a church and school next to Ledwaba Street.
The ammunition had been hidden away in a stormwater pipe at the corners of Molete and Edkin roads in Dobsonville.
At this stage it is not suspected that these three cases are linked, but Dobsonville detectives are following up all possible leads in these cases.

DOBSONVILLE, SOWETO, 29 October 2006 — Soweto Electricity Crisis Committee [SECC] activist Thabo Modisane was assaulted and arrested Saturday afternoon in Dobsonville, Soweto, while resisting the eviction of an elderly resident.
According to the SECC Advice Office, evictions are frequent in Dobsonville and other post-apartheid areas of Soweto where most new development is for profit “bank-load” homes.

Residents of Soweto's Dobsonville area are up in arms about Eskom switching off electricity in some parts of the township last weekend.
Anger was evident at a meeting convened by the Dobsonville Civic Association and attended mostly by elderly residents at the area's stadium on Sunday.
Newly elected Councillor for Ward 47, Japhta Lekgetho, who is also chairperson for the Dobsonville Civic Association, said he had called the meeting in his capacity as the chairperson of the Dobsonville Civic Association.
