Cooke called in some of his considerable chits in the late 1980s and early 1990s as he argued vociferously for a billion-dollar renovation of the Pentagon.
Cooke was not laughing when he argued in the 1980s for the renovation and for the Pentagon to be transferred from under the auspices of the General Services Administration to the Defense Department.

Keppard worked in Chicago both as a soloist and with the bands of Jimmie Noone, Johnny Dodds, Erskine Tate, Doc Cooke (for several years), Don Pasquall, and Lil Hardin Armstrong.
Keppard made all his known recordings in Chicago from 1924 to 1927.
The only recordings he is certainly on are three sides under his own name ("Freddie Keppard's Jazz Cardinals") and a dozen with Doc Cooke's Orchestra, most of which are heavily arranged and with Keppard on second trumpet.

It was very old and worn, and full of photographs and newspaper clippings about my grandfather, R.L. “Doc” Cooke, who had been the superintendent of the leprosy settlement at Kalaupapa on Molokai for 14 years until his death in 1939.
She had mentioned Doc from time to time, but she never spoke of their life at the settlement, and had never once mentioned the photo album.
Doc's submarine was actually the USS K-7 (SS-38)...perhaps there was some wear to the brush and the K-7 was mistaken for an F-4.
