		While the magic elements felt unusual for a Doc Samson story, Di Filippo continuously reminded us that Doc Samson is a doctor and he never loses that perspective in the story, so even though he’s in an outlandish plot for him, it’s still Doc Samson.
		Although Doc Samson appears to be out of his element in this tale of magic, it’d be easy for a bad writer to forget that this is Doc Samson’s own title, and make Doc incidental to the resolution of this story.

		As Doc Samson & Dr. Angela Lipscombe continue their efforts to repair the damaged psyche of Bruce Banner, we see they are both growing increasingly frustrated by the emergence of one of the Hulk personas any time Banner is faced with ideas that he finds objectionable.
		However, we also see that their frustrations are masking deeper hatreds, as Doc Samson looks upon Banner as a rival for Angela's affections, while Angela hates Bruce for his constant need to be helped, while never rewarding those who help him.
		It's about time Doc Samson was made to look as something more than a tireless psychiatrist continually banging his head into the wall that is Banner's fractured mind.

		Samson immediately became a kind of super-powered samurai by way of the Village People and set on the trail to atone for his sins.
		Paul Di Filippo's version is superior to the Byrne revamp, but his characterization for the green-haired Doc is overwhelmed by thick blocks of verbiage and Native American styled hocus pocus that ill suits what is essentially a science hero in the mold of Doc Savage.
		The Doc's goddaughter is a charming creation though perhaps too obvious a reminder of the modern age.
